Mixed Feelings

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
After a week of looking, Spain Gardens was the best thing I could find. The area is terrific; lots of convenient shopping close by. The process of getting moved in was a bit traumatic however. The office staff is, in general, unknowledgeable and unhelpful. I did most the rental paperwork over the phone from out of state and I had to follow up over and over both via e-mail and phone. My e-mails were rarely returned and it took days to have my phone calls returned.
One office staff person, Robin, was really rude and I suspect just plain lazy. When I phoned she was completely disinterested in helping me and when we finally arrived, instead of offering to take us to view the apartment in the golf cart, she made us drive to the end of this 500 unit complex in a moving truck over several speed bumps. This entire complex is also completely inaccessible to persons with disabilities, with the exception of a few parking spaces.
Due to my disability, I asked a leasing agent if we could get help with just a mattress and she assured me that would be no problem. When we finished unloading and called for help, Robin informed me that the maintenance staff was far too busy oh and they are not allowed to do that. I told her I was promised help and was informed that only managers could make promises to help tenants. I told her I didn t care about titles, that all staff should be properly informed of rules so as not to give tenants incorrect information. Fortunately, I ve got great neighbors!
My unit has been remodeled if you could call it that. The cabinets are very cheap and rickety and the appliances, while new and pretty are basic and probably low end. The carpet and flooring are new and the apartment is clean. The grounds look beautiful until you give them close inspection. There are lots of weeds in the beds, and shrubbery and trees are improperly pruned. Coming from a drought-ridden area of the country, I am appalled that they run sprinklers all night to water weeds! I ve only been here three days, but so far it is very quiet and the view on the Sandia Mountains is beautiful.
