I lived at Chateau Calais for almost a year. The neighborhood of Seven Hills is absolutely beautiful, and when I was searching for an apartment in that area, Chateau seemed to be the nicest apartments in the area. Don't let the outside appearance or the "model" apartments fool you! The inside of the apartments are WAY outdated. I had a two bedroom, and not only was there not a microwave in the kitchen, but there were no lights or ceiling fans in the bedrooms - as there were in the "model" apartment. the kitchen and bathroom floors were cheap vinyl, and all sink fixtures were old and cheap. Cheap plastic counters in the restrooms, and cheap wood cabinets throughout. After living there only a few months, the carpet began to unravel where it met the vinyl in the kitchen and restrooms. My home security system never worked; later I discovered that was because the wires were cut! Also, when it was cold enough to turn the fireplace on, I had to light the pilot. So when I pressed the long metal door open that runs across the bottom of the fireplace to light said pilot, I discovered several hundred dead cockroaches. Wonderful. Let me tell you about the BUGS. As the summer months came, I had to call the office EVERY THREE WEEKS to request an exterminator because my apartment would be crawling with crickets, beetles, spiders, and roaches. First of all, at $1400.00 a month rent, I think they should automatically spray for bugs every month without me having to call the office and complain, especially if the office personnel is aware that there is a serious bug in the warmer months. I was told that because the apartments have a field behind them, the bugs are bad in the summer when it gets too hot for them outside and they seek a cooler environment. Hence the infestation. The place I lived at before this did monthly sprays, and I never had any problems. I am a borderline neat freak, and when I would come home from work and have to walk into the kitchen and both restrooms each evening with my broom and dust pan to sweep up the 3 - 10 dead and alive bugs waiting for me, it tends to piss you off and gross you out a little. The pool was absolutely FILTHY all summer. It looked like it was never cleaned. Sand and debris in the fountain & pool. Not just a little bit, but a lot! All the time. I was beginning to wonder why the hell I was paying so much for this place! I have a few friends who lived in surrounding apartments that had no such problems, and they were paying way less rent. Two of my friends live in Manhattan condos on Las Vegas Blvd., pay the same amount of rent ($1400.00) and they"re pads were very up to date, clean plush, tight security, more amenities, ect., ect. So I was envious of their diggs. The gym at Chateau is a total Joke. The equipment looks like it was purchased from Goodwill. Im not exaggerating with any of my complaints or descriptions people. Finally, when the end of my lease was near, I was aware that I needed to turn in a 60 day notice. So I turned in my first one; it was in shorthand and I felt it was a little informal, so I turned in a formally typed one a few days later. When my move out date was near, I found out that office personnel had no record of either of the TWO notices I gave them, and told me that I was going to be responsible for two more months rent!!!!! WHAT! I don't think so. I had to go over there heads and call Ovation Property Management to get the issue resolved. Its not my problem if your office personnel is incompetent and irresponsible. Because of the employees misplacing my notices, it almost cost me $2800.00. The funny thing is, both notices were enclosed in envelopes, and the first one had my rent check in it. So you're telling me that you deposited my rent check, but my notice magically disappeared' I don't think it was on purpose, but clearly the staff is careless. I strongly advise not moving into this place. NO! NO! NO! NO! Very bad experience. They do a great job of leasing the places, but a terrible job with everything else. DO NOT BE FOOLED!
