I lived at Chateau Calais for one full year and totally hated it. The apartment had not been painted or cleaned from the previous tenant and nothing worked right. While there were several phone jacks in the apartment (two bedroom, two bath) only one worked. When the phone man came he checked them and said they didn't work and I wasn't about to pay for any rewiring. There was a terrible smell in the area where the computer desk is situated, which I was never able to get rid of. The kitchen always got flooded whenever it rained, with the water coming in from outside somehow and seeping under the baseboard. The so-called pantry was a joke. A triangular shaped cabinet that didn't hold much, and the refrigerator had a built-in icemaker which took up a lot of space, and I was afraid to even use one ice cube. No microwave and every time I used the garbage disposal water came up into the other side of the sink. Don't ask me about the outside trash containers with their gates for closing off the trash area. Each gate had been removed and was pushed into the little area where the trash container was. I could go on and on. I originally moved in with a six month lease, while waiting for a house to be completed. I did not renew the lease after the six months but continued to live there on a monthly basis. Every month the rent went up without any notification. One month they returned my check with a nasty letter saying that I had not paid the full amount. The amount I had paid was what I had paid the previous month, but in the meantime they had raised the rent without notifying me. The main reason I rented this apartment was because it came with an attached 2 car garage, which I fully used to store all my stuff. The garage door didn't completely come down to the ground but left a gap at the bottom, so consequently I got a lot of debris that came in from the street. I was so happy to move out of Chateau Calais and would definitely say to anyone considering moving in there, DON'T DO IT. Find somewhere else. I had a downstairs apartment and the people above me were the worst. If I was taking a shower they would bang on their floor or wall above me. They were so noisy it was unbelievable. At 5 a.m. in the morning it sounded like they were rolling bowling balls across the floor, yet they would bang on my ceiling if I made the slightest noise.
