I put down a deposit and application to rent a particular apartment with a staff member who indicated that the apt. desired would be available on a certain date with no questions asked. She even directed me to the location of the apt. so that I may get a feel for the view etc. Two days before my move across the country, I recieved a phone call indicating to me that they were not able to rent me the apt. because the current tenants will not move out. How can you put an apt. on the market and rent it to someone else and then throw it back in their face' If they are not going to honor the agreement, what point is there to pay deposit on an apt. if they are not going to hold it for you' I contacted the corporate office of Olen Management and they were very unhelpful. They stated that they were trying to help but never returned my phone calls and avoided them altogether. I was so inconvenienced by the fact that all my belongings had already been forwarded to this address. I was pretty much left homeless without any help from the staff. They were even rude to me. They stated that it was Nevada Law that tenants cannot be forced to move out. I consulted with Nevada attorneys and other management companies in the area and they stated that this was not the case that the tenants should be forced to move. The attorneys advised that I have a very strong case and should take legal action. I'm sure that the current tenants were not inconvenienced at all even when their lease had ended, their apt. was rented and they gave their notice of cancellation three days before the apt. was to be available to me. They were allowed to stay with no questions asked. What kind of management allows that' I believe that this is a gimic to lure tenants in, show them a beautiful model with a wonderful view and then shove them into whatever they have available without even seeing the apt. I have rented apts. in numerous locations on the east coast and have never had this experience before of going into an apt. blind. I would never rent from another Olen Management property again and warn future tenants as well. It seems like they were trying to kill two birds with one stone by taking rent from both parties and throwing me into a random apt. on the other side of the complex. RENTER BEWARE!!! Do not fall into the same trap!
