Should never be considered as a first choice

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
My boyfriend and I have been here for almost a year and we're already looking for another place to move. We moved here since it was cheap but that was because they almost moved us to a handicapped apartment and informed us barely a week before we were ready to move in. That was already a red flag! They agreed to lower the rent a bit because of the mistake. The first few months were fine... Then we started having ants and spider problems. Our bathroom started to smell like sewage and our non-ceramic tub forms mold easily. The air conditioning broke down on us twice (we actually had to use pliers to manipulate the air vent grill since it wasn't cooling all of the rooms properly). The pipe on our water heater sprung a leak and we stayed up all night trying to drain the buckets of water. We had to wait til the clubhouse was open so that they can send someone down to fix it. Don't count on them for emergencies. Despite landscapers coming by weekly to maintain the place, they seem to conveniently miss our area, causing a lot of the plants in our patio to grow wildly (the leaves were practically touching our floor and we couldn't go out!). Management is pretty bad and "lenient" with their rules and restrictions. Please remember the names of the management staff you're working with; they get new staff members every few months and they always seem to be caught off-guard or clueless if you have questions or complaints. There are signs posted about penalty fines for dog owners who don't pick up after their pet and yet there's piles of poop on the grass. I spent 3 weeks calling and asking them to cut the wild plants in our patio until we finally went down to the office ourselves to complain. Some stupid new neighbor busted the roof of OUR reserved sheltered parking spot and it wasn't fixed until over a month later. Seems like anybody can park in those reserved spots. Don't get me started on the neighbors! Depending on which building you're in, the kids can be quite annoying. Our current neighbor who lives across from our door treats the area like a giant ashtray. There are cigarette butts, ashes, and burnt matches everywhere and they don't even use the ashtray that's right outside of their door! The walls are thin so you can hear anybody in your building loudly walking down the stairs, blasting music or having loud conversations. Oh, let's not forget that Wildhorse Estates was in the local news a few months ago because some crazed lunatic CLIMBED up to the third story and entered through the patio to beat and rape an elderly woman! There's almost always police cars here and security consists of one guy who spends more time watching TV inside the gym than patrolling the place. Oh yeah, the gym only has a few machines that work but there is no fountain or bathroom.
I think the only good thing here would be the student discount on the rent, so make sure you have a current Student ID on you and ask!
