So you didn't plan for your retirement' No mutual funds, no savings, no home equity. Now you get to enjoy your golden years in substandard senior housing in the heart of the ghetto. Drug dealers, prostitutes, police shooting, who needs television when you have a world of drama right at your doorstep.
Make no mistake, this neighborhood is the ghetto. Even the local paper did an in-depth story about how this this neighborhood has the city's highest crime rate. I had the window of my car busted out in the parking lot. There is no security here whatsoever. There are gates, but they don't lock. There are no security guards. Homeless people and young thugs regularly wander though the apartment complex. And the apartment owners REMOVED all of the security bars from all of the apartments for "insurance reasons." Luckily, I haven't heard of any f the elderly residents being assulted, but it's only a matter of time.
And at $700 a month for a one bedroom, it's getting damned expensive to live in the ghetto. You're required to renew your lease every six months, and they raise your rent every time you renew.
I'm one of the few young people who live here, and I've live in a few Third World countries, so it doesn't bother me so much. But I can't imagine living out my final years in a place like this.
