This Isn't "Boyz In Da' Hood," but they sure do try...

For starters, I have lived here from 1 Sep 2002 to the present day (19 Dec 2007). I've lived in the same apartment the entire time.

I'll try to break down some of the details of this place, piece by piece.

Parking - There is assigned parking along with some extra spots that anyone can park in. People WILL use your spot. Guess what' There's a ton of other spots, for most of the complex! They tell you where your spot is when you move in, so if you have a problem with it, don't move into that apartment. It's really a simple concept. The only reason I can see a longer walk being a problem is if you are morbidly obese or mentally handicapped, resulting in you getting lost on your way from your car to your apartment.

Noise - It's next to one of the busiest Air Forces bases in the U.S., how quiet do you think it's going to be'. Also, the Motor Speedway isn't too far away. If you're trying to find a quiet place, this place would obviously be a horrible choice.

Grounds - They look pretty good, especially considering the part of town this place is in. They use to take much better care of the pool areas, but not so much any more. They're usually locked year round and they often have some sort of problem (green water, feces, etc.) Once you step in the complex, it seems like this place shouldn't be in this part of town. Once you step off the grounds, you'll think you're in a Mexican ghetto.

Security - This is Las Vegas, not Springfield, USA. There is crime everywhere. Name a complex in Vegas that has leased apartments for at least a year and hasn't had any robbery, drugs, or violence, and I'll call you a liar. Try to live on the 2nd floor here if you're really scared, but insist on moving in. Also, don't live near the edges of the complex. Try to live somewhere in the middle. The guards couldn't care less if you get robbed, so be aware of that. Their dispatch is HORRIBLE and you may have to chase them down if you need help. I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. It's not a small complex, so that might take you 5 - 10 minutes. If you live here, you're far from upper class, so what do you expect'

Apartments - They're not bad in ways, especially in comparison to others in town that are priced similarly. If you're a poor/cheap person, I think you'll have a hard time finding a better value based on how much room you get for the price. You'll almost certainly lose some square ft elsewhere. Roman tubs, porches and balconies, gas stoves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers. All in all, not horrible for the price, although the experiences might be awful.

Bugs - I think it could depend on where you live. When I first moved in, I was invaded by ants and roaches. After that, my washroom had a new black widow every other week. Lately, I've been visited by numerous scorpions. I'm averaging a scorpion on my ceiling about twice a month. A few have been about 4 1/2 inches long. I don't think they spray these places nearly enough, so you will have to ask them to do it, probably 3 to 4 times a year.

Maintenance - They're okay. They are basically average Joe's trying to figure out how to solve various problems. They're nothing special, but they seem to try. Ido notice them b.s.ing on golf carts a lot, which makes me wonder why it takes them a long time to come over and fix stuff. Oh wait...

Office Staff - It's changed so much, and it hasn't become any better. When I moved in, they were great. Now, many of them behave as if they don't care less what you're problem is, and I'm surprised they don't flip me off when I walk into their office. It's not all of them by any means, but too many of them for comfort. I suspect part of it stems from their management. If you want to move to a new apartment in the complex, you'll be lucky if they let you look at it before you move in. Yeah, they're that bad.

Location - This place is on the Northeast side of town. This is about the only far corner of this town that's looks like garbage, the other three corners look fairly nice. You can take Craig down to the I-15 (typically a 5 minute drive) in order to get to the Las Vegas strip in about 15-20 minutes. If you live in these apartments, it's probably because you work at the Air Force base, the Motor Speedway, or you just didn't know any better. The area isn't nice, and there isn't much to do. Seriously, the surrounding area is like the slums or something. There's also a Wal-Mart near by. Bums will harass you every time you shop there. It's also the filthiest Wal-Mart I've ever been inside of.

Don't have ridiculously high expectations about this place. You're not going to receive 5 star service when you're paying for a 2 star apartment. Also, this place is on the edge of one of the worst parts of town. It's obvious when you see the area that it's not the best place to live. The surrounding trailer parks, porn stores, bars, bums, illegal aliens, prostitutes (includes transsexuals), crack dealers, etc. are all what I like to consider CLUES! So if you move in and have any problems, you almost have it coming to you for being a moron.

I would say this place is barely adequate for single military males looking for a temporary place to live for 6 months when they first arrive to Nellis AFB. If this isn't you, you better shop around. You're most likely going to end up having a problem with not being pampered by the property management 24/7 in addition to dealing with all the weirdos that live outside, and inside of the complex.

I hope this helps!

By far, one of the best reviews I've read yet! Thank you. So far, everywhere I've read has stated the obvious: The crime rate is high, the wildlife of a desert area sometimes doesn't stay outside, and you're paying for 3 star service demanding 5 star results. I drove an armored car in the ghetto's of Detroit, MI for three years. There isn't much that really scares me. Aside that, I'm a huge fan of the United States Military Aviation Program. It would be like heaven for me. How visible are the fighters from the complex? To me, that's the sound of freedom. In relation to The Venetian and McCarran Int'l (both of my jobs when I get out there), how far of a drive am I looking at if I decide to move in here?

I urge everyone to look up the crime rate at this place on the metro police site...at least one incident every other day or so. When confronted with this documented crime rate, I was told.."well, there's crime everywhere.." That don't make it okay. I have since moved out of Eagle Trace into an area with absolutely no crime and an armed guard on duty. The rent is comparable and the service outstanding. Eagle Trace accepted no responsibility for the 3 break-ins and thefts I endured. Did not even offer to send "security" for the last break-in. I was told by Metro the best thing to do was move--suspecting "insiders" for all the criminal activity there. That was all I needed to move. "Security" confided that there were 3 gangs operating out of that complex..if security knew this, odds are management does to. Olen management was notified we were moving due to the crime and loss of our property. We literally had to move in the middle of the night because not only did we suspect folks on this property of criminal activity, but management was doing NOTHING to stop this. It came down to us protecting our lives or stay and risk more than property loss. DO NOT MOVE HERE---look around, look at the metro site, ask tough questions.
