I am now a victim of Fibromyalgia... due to uninhabitable living conditions at Emerald Bay

Attention to All Possible EB Renters I am currently a handicap tenant at the Emerald Bay Apartments and have resided here since 2000. I was on crutch canes prior to moving in and am now on a wheelchair. Kept in the dark, like so many other tenants before me, I was placed into a unit that had previously developed a problem with mold & mildew. Temporary quick fixes of fresh paint & carpet cleaning has never helped anyone with plumbing issues. In fact with time it only worsens into possible health issues, as is with my present case.

Eventually the mold had resurfaced and became airborne. Due to the multiple flooding problems from my kitchen sink, dishwasher, washing machine and constant toilet flooding & condensation we are clearly dealing with on going Landlord/Tenant Violations! I have kept pictures & every legal document possible and over the years my file has grown into one Fat Case (which ironically, they have no record of'). After going through a bunch of hassles with them .in waiting for a vacant accessible unit for my wheel chair, I agreed (in desperation) to move into my now 2nd unit apartment. All at my own expense of $1,200 which did not include my transfer of utilities!

During the first month of me being out of this unit (#1), I was hospitalized where upon which, doctors found mold in my veins. (This is documented in hospital records, NV). I had notified the rental management while I was in the hospital (ICU) of the plumbing problems with the toilet and was assured of maintenance repair ASAP. Months later and still recovering, I went home to check on my cat (in care of a neighbor friend) . I thought all would be fixed. Only to find my carpet was still soaking wet from the toilet, I was furuious. Obviously maintenance had not taken cared of the plumbing problems as I was promised.

(Also, my handicap parking situation, has been continuously neglected by property management.)

I requested a professional plumber be brought in and was refused on numerous occasions. The present manager claims that he was never informed of the problems. Which is not factual because #1, I told him myself. And I asked the staff members, if they had communicated this to the manager and they all said yes. 2 years into my 2nd unit., I am still dealing with plumbing issues. And the chronic pain (Fibromyalgia) is getting worse!

It is my hope that through this letter, if I can reach one person to prevent them from going through the hellish experiences I've had to deal with then its good.

You see, during the time I have lived on this property, I have acquired fibromyalgia which is extremely debilitating. Fibromyalgia- is a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and the tactile alloying (sensitive to light touch). Sometimes I want to be hugged by my family and friends because the days can be so overwhelming for me, but it hurts too much. I am in constant pain, every minute of the day! My physical therapist and nurse who was tending to me as an outpatient while I was at my mothers, suggested that they felt my blood disease is connected to this mold from my living situation.

I'm concerned about other tenants out there who may become victimized, or has been victimized through EB's history of negligence. Uninhabitable living conditions is a crime that needs to stop!! Before it gets to our friends & loved ones, where more lives may be affected. Money is not the issue here. It is about our health, safety and the principles we as tenants are given as natural abiding citizens. The Laws are here to help protect us and we need to know that.

If there is anyone who has been a victim of Emerald Bay or would like to contact me with questions, you may reach me at: blackvelvetsky87@aol.com Together in one voice We can make a difference!
