It is better than many, but still has problems, esp. scorpions.

Club Pacific Apartments is now called Rockmeadow Apartments, and is owned by ConAm.
Rockmeadow is a fairly decent looking apartment complex on the East/Central side of town, about 3 miles from the strip.
The buildings and interior are better than many other apartments in the area in terms of appearance, but that isn' that strong of an endorsement.
The management is a mixed bag. They seem very nice when you communicate with them directly, but their actions tend to be pretty discourteous at times. For example, after giving me an assigned parking space, months into my lease they decided to require stickers and allow any car with a sticker to use any covered space. The result was 2-3 days a week, I didn'e a covered space for my car anywhere near my apartment. When the temp is 110-125 degrees F (no joke), having your car out in the sun for hours before you climb into it really, really is a problem! In spite of numerous complaints, this policy is still in effect. The good part is you can have up to 3 stickers, so you can park more cars under covered spaces, when you can get them. I could probably have sued them, but short of that, there was not much else that could be done. In general, the management just treats everyone like a deadbeat, no matter what past (positive) experience they have with a tenant. If rent isn'd by the third, on the fourth they respond with a 5-day Quit notice taped to your front door, which anyone walking by can plainly see! Pretty classless.
Maintenance is just OK; sometimes it takes them a while and multiple complaints to get requests handled, other times they do it right away. Things that need done near the entrance (near the office) seem to get taken care of right away, but issues near the back can take forever (out of sight, out of mind)! They seem to expect "slack" from the tenants on their part of the contract (maintenance), but give basically none regarding the parts that benefit them (rent a little late, parking, etc). Pretty weak!
The apartments in the southeastern corner of Rockmeadow share a border with the Fountains at Flamingo. All the scorpion stories you can read on this site (about that place) are likely true! No healthy adult has died from the sting of an Arizona Bark Scorpion for several decades, but apparently some unhealthy adults have, as well as children. Centuroides exilicauda - look it up on the internet and decide for yourself how "deadly" you think they are. They are easy to identify because they are the only species in NV that can climb walls. I can tell you that the stings are extremely painful, if nothing else, and the one that stung me just "nicked" me. I don'nk all the apartments in the complex have the same problem with scorpions that mine did, as the exterminator told me that the scorpions live in the cinder block fence. He also said that they are extremely resistant to pesticides due to the fact that they don'g their bodies on the ground when they walk.
Noise is sometimes a problem, as the floors are a little thin. It is not too bad if you get someone who understands that they need to be considerate of others, but if not... Music from other apartments, etc., has not been noticable.
The skylights are nice, but the fireplaces aren'h use in Las Vegas, and take up space on the wall. There isn'h storage in the apartments for boxes, etc.
Overall, it is not such a bad place, but for the money I expected better. It is way better than Fountains at Flamingo, with private washer/dryer, and nicer grounds, for a similiar price. The scorpions are a real problem, and I wouldn'n consider moving here with small children, at least not in an apartment near the cinder block fences. The "No" recommedation is due to the scorpions.

Just a follow up on my original post. Rockmeadow was turned into condos, and I left in March 2005 (I had no choice, not that I planned on staying anyway). Since the first review was posted, I had horrible problems with my neighbors above making a lot of banging/stomping noises between 1:30-3:00am, forceful enough to knock pictures off the walls. Management (Rockmeadow/ConAm) did nothing, probably because they knew the place was being sold. My neighbors eventually moved out and the new guy was not a problem. The only reason I bring it up is that part of the problem with the place is the floors must be on the thin side. The upgrades performed to make Rockmeadow into Laguna Palms are a nice touch and make the place look less like 1982. The class of people in the complex still isn't too good - some people seem to think gunfire is a great way to celebrate Independence Day or the New Year. The neighborhood near the complex is worse and walking around after dark is best done while armed, or not at all. In short, better places can be found just a few miles away for a comparable price, so look around. |
