Bad Management, Worse Neighborhood

I found Oasis Place on the Internet when I moved from Georgia. My late uncle had lived in the area some 15 years earlier, so I thought I knew the neighborhood. It sure changed, and it sure wasn't for the better. More about the neighborhood later.
First of all, every apartment in the complex is a studio, which means a lot of problems if you have any possessions. The large Roman tub and small washer/dryer have their advantages, but they also take up valuable space. I had several items that had to stay in boxes until I moved.
The original management was above average, especially Miranda, who was so good she was promoted to run a larger complex, and her successor seems to me like an idiot who graduated management school, but has no actual knowledge of how to manage an apartment complex.
My first problem was when I called the emergency maintenance number around 1am because there was water pouring in from above into my bathroom, and I was asked if it could wait until morning. Another resident went through the parking lot and deliberately damaged several cars, especially mine.
The clincher was when they announced that they would no longer accept credit cards for rent payment, and that all residents had to have renter's insurance. To no one's surprise, they also announced that they had their own renter's insurance available. They also tried to hike up the rent by some 35%. When I gave them my intent to move letter, they offered to keep the rent the same, which I thought to be very funny, since that was not my reason for moving.
In addition to being in a very high-crime area, the biggest problem with the neighborhood is that the complex is only accessible from Sierra Vista, which only runs between Paradise Road and Maryland Parkway. It's also on the back end of the Las Vegas Convention Center, so any time there is a major convention there, and there are a lot, just driving in and out of there is an adventure.
In summary, the apartments, apart from being small, are not bad, but the management and neighborhood are both good reasons to stay away.

The only fair basis for judging the Oasis studios is by comparing apartments in other Las Vegas complexes for the same money. On this basis, the studios offer reasonable valus, attractiveness, and convenience to single persons. Obviously, one has to expect serious trade-offs for apartments in Las Vegas for little more than $600. The manager mentioned in this review has been gone for months. I've lived here fairly comfortably for 5 1/2 years.

I would like to respond to davewrite who says you have to compare other apartments for little more than $600 a month. These apartments are only 440 square feet. I lived there 18 months and my rent was 635. Thats a higher per square foot than the luxury complexs in Henderson or summerlin. Plus on top of that you have to pay WATER and TRASH which is normally included. In addition to that you have to put up with BAD maintenance and BAD management and a BAD neighborhood. Stay away from this place. You can get much better places for the money.
