4th of July

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I leave the apartment around 11:30am when it's early & the loud people are usually not out yet. I leave to go around the corner to get bottled water, & the loud people already have their BBQ a couple of feet from my dinning room window (again this is just a narrow path between buildings, not out in the open). As I walk by the BBQ I look at their building and see a couple of them already out, I shake my head thinking it's only early afternoon they will be out here till what' midnight' They must have seen me, because when I get back one of the loud mouth women indirectly says "We asked the office if we could BBQ." For over a year now this has been going on, so I let her know that there are other places in this complex to have a party - the pool area & the other side of their building, both which are out in the open, have more space, and are not directly in front of someone's window. She yells at me something about F*ck you they can have it there (outside my window). The old man on the steps (there's my window, their BBQ, then the stairs on their building) tells me do the same, I tell him No, so he says to me "You have a big f*ckin' mouth, how would you like to meet my big f*ckin' fist'" I'm in my doorway, he's in front of me saying this, I forgot my 15yr old daughter before came out and calmly asked them if they could do this in a another place he & told her "get back in your house white B*tch." Then he threatened me, my daughter and son both heard him, and she started calling the cops, though I didn't want to because for some reason this whole year thats what the management (instead of telling them themselves) and these loud people wanted. The police came, one came into my apartment, I told him what happened, all the cop told them, & now there was at least 4-5 others from this group out there, was to move the BBQ in front of my living room window. Now they were BBQing on a patch of grass about the size of a bedroom; There where lawn chairs, chairs, enough food to feed a small army, other people and children who also live in the complex, and adults and children who don't. They looked like homeless people, there were so many people and children and furniture on such a small patch of lawn. There was extremely loud yelling, the children where skating up and down the narrow closed in path, banging on my walls & door. By 5:30pm I called the police, & on the phone the dispatcher tells me that she can hear everything (the yelling, the banging, etc.). The police came in two cars, two cops are at my door, I believe they saw & understood that there was only me and there was this large group of people and didn't want to start a riot. I already told the cops earlier that this group has said that it's only the white people complaining (there's a older single retired woman in their building who has said something). The cops didn't like the fact that they had to come out there on the 4th of July. He said they can party there, they live here too (so they live here' And the management said it was OK doesn't make it right. The management was wrong, as they recently put up fliers on everyone's doors stating the rules of the complex, what happens if people break them, & that people only get so many warnings before they're kicked out (about three), that's why we called the cops, as they've been given plenty of notices, warnings or just free passes from the staff here). I asked the cops why they can party outside my windows and BBQ on the grass when there are grills in the complex already' My daughter who is very upset by this whole day asked him "How long can they party' They've been out here for over 5 hours." He said looking at me that they live here, the management told them they can. My daughter asked me if she can close the door this is not helping, & she started to close the door before I could respond & he grabbed the door and asked how old are you' She said 15, & he said "then shut up before I put you in your room. Let the adults speak." What if I agreed I didn't want to talk to them anymore and I was going to close the door' Would he force the door open' Get mad then make me mad and handcuff me and take me to jail' My daughter was right, it made it worse by them coming (yes I got a paper saying that the cops where called. Who's going to help me' A lawyer'). My daughter said later it's not her age, she had to live though this, that's all. I believe it hit a nerve with the cop, & she's right: If this large group of people don't want to use the right area to party and decide to go right outside my apartment and scream, curse, use racial language, pound on the walls/floors, run, skateboard, drink, & fight, then how long are we suppose to live with this' In their own building they have a lawn as well, but then they would be bothering the other tenants on that side and they don't want to do that, so they only use my window to party in such a small space. I asked the cop then if I bring a group of people and party and yell in front of their window thats OK' He said thats up the to the management. As the cops where leaving one of the women was video taping the officers, showing how they could get away with this behavior, the children where laughing, so I opened my window and asked why they don't leave and go somewhere else, one of the young guys yelled to me "if you don't shut up, something's going to happen to you." My daughter could hear this, & my son in his room could hear this, my son and daughter for sure thought the cops should be able to hear that. I yell for the cops to let them know that he threatened me, but the cop told me that it sounds like I'm instigating it, like they're not antagonizing me by partying outside my doorway & windows (which they have been doing for the past year & a half). I have never seen anyone party outside of someone else's window in this complex, its to small of a space, there is an area for the children to play and a few for grilling and socializing. My son told me later that when I asked them to leave I didn't curse at them, call them racial slurs, or threaten them or their children, and this person answered back with a threat. They've been quiet since then, & this is their pattern: They make so much noise I call the management, they stop for awhile, then start up again. Most people who decide to move here have to, the rent is cheap, the management might let do as you please, they give out rules but don't enforce them, but how many people are going to check review sites before moving here'
