Just say no

My friend and I were shown an apartment here. We liked it a lot and signed our lease. It looked very retro and different than the "Pleasantville" type of houses and apartments that are taking over the rest of the city. It looked really cute and was really big. We knew the neighborhood wasn't safe, but figured because it was gated and lit up at night that it would be ok.

Overall, I would say no if you're thinking of moving here. The management was always nice, but ditzy...very ditzy. When things broke (as they will because it's an old building) we would have to go and report it 3 times each in person before it got handled. Every time there was a different girl up front who would answer "oh really!'".

The MAIN reason that I would say no though....ROACHES. Not like one or two...TONS and TONS of GIANT roaches...and wolf spiders...and a couple of those flying cockroach things...plus some centipede looking thing...I personally bombed the apartment three times and sprayed daily around every molding, electrical outlet, drain under the sink, cabinets,...ok i sprayed EVERYTHING. They keep coming back because the grounds are infested with them. If they cleared out the grounds proactively they probably wouldn't have to come and bomb everyone's apartments...but that hasn't happened. I truly miss being able to keep any food in the house.I don't even have cereal as I bought a box before and poured a bowl one morning and was greeted by 3 cockroaches. Just to clarify-I'm not a messy person by any means. Dishes are done immediately after use, my apartment is vacuumed three times a week, dusted, no garbage lying around...but I cannot get rid of the roaches. I also am forced to buy milk with screwcaps only since they're even in the refridgerator. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I pray you never know what it feels like to be awoken from sleeping and find a four inch cockroach crawling in your hair.

Generally I think the apartments are overpriced considering the area (I'm paying $730 now...for a cockroach infested apartment in the hood). Other stuff: the pool seems ok, the space was nice, there is a lot of parking. Neighbors are so-so. They're friendly and say hello, but the people that live above me are awake all hours of the night and banging (not like walking around in the room-i mean banging like they are taking a hammer to the floor in the same spot over and over) anywhere from 7am to noon to 5pm to 3 am...but who knows...maybe all that pounding is them killing the roaches too. g-hKOS7s4Nq5n3hEIpHd
