They flat out LIED To me to get me to move in. Told me the unit beneath mine was a SHOW UNIT, almost always empty, so I'd have no one living directly under me. I lived there for 11 months and that "SHOW UNIT" was only vacant for about 2 weeks total.
Other than that a nonstop parade of noisy, smelly, uncaring moronic neighbors.
The problems:
1) SECONDHAND SMOKE. If anyone smokes either in your building (8 attached units) or in any of the balconies facing your building, or in any of the common areas adjacent to your building, YOUR APARTMENT WILL BE A DEN OF NOXIOUS FUMES. I got so sick i HAD to move out.
2) THREE onsite "managers" are overpaid and slowmoving. Why it takes THREE people to do a one person job is why your rent is $200 higher than it should be....
3) NOISY... next to EASTERN AVE, terrible traffic racket, lots of dog barking (for a facility advertised as NO DOGS), idiot neighbors playing loud music 20 hours a day, and BEST of all - a stoned-out-of-his-mind gardener who shows up 6 hours a day EVERY Day with a leafblower. Why you need DAILY GARDENING in a DESERT is anyone's guess...
4) SMELLY - the sewers smell big time out on SERENE AVE, and on hot days the stench rises up from the interior drains. Also the moronic neighbors, none of whom seem to be EMPLOYED, leave their smelly trash out in the 120 degree heat - wonderful aroma! And that braindead gardener speads elephant manure around the complex on the hottest days possible as well.
5) ZERO SECURITY - alarm system is a JOKE,
and the GATES do not work - there is always at least one GATE wide open for any lowlife to walk in, though that is irrelevant since most of the city lowlifes RESIDE IN THE COMPLEX. Anything not chained down and unattended for 5 minutes within the complex will be stolen. I had a moving cart stolen of all things, while i was in my apartment getting more boxes. REAL HELPFUL.
Cars in the parking lot were often vandalized.
6) Braindead maintenance. 4 Exercise machines in the "FITNESS CENTER", at least 2 of them are out of service at all times.
Obviously takes a rocket scientist to replace a pulley cable...

I also suspect they somehow siphon electric and gas from the tenant units to power the common areas, because my utility bills were higher when i lived in their 1000 sq ft apartment than they are in my new 1500 sq ft house. Figure that out. One thing I can tell you is TURN OFF The pilot light in the gas fireplace and you will save $10 to $20 per month off your gas bill. Just keeping the pilot lit, without ever using the fire, costs money...

I would suggest, if you are moving to vegas, RENT A HOUSE if you cannot afford to buy one. Do not even consider an apartment. Sharing common walls or areas with anyone is nothing but aggravation. The housing market is glutted, whereas the apartment market is tight (BIZARRE!). Bottom line is you can rent a lovely house for very little more than an icky cardboard box apartment.

Just bear in mind 90% of the townfolk are morons, and apparently living off some sort of public assistance. So no matter where you live, the more space you have between your exterior walls and the nearest neighbor, the happier you will be.

I totally agree about the gate, security, and the number bums that ive at Rancho Serene. But my biggest complaint is the unruly childern. I hear childern (especially 3 girls) outside makeing loud noise usally until 9:30pm. Where are there parents? This is the first and last apartment i will ever live in. The noise level is so high that my alarm clock has become irvelant. The trashman gets me up at 6:30am sharp 5 days a week. The pool is often so ful of leaves and is so poorly maintained that when you get out you look like "Swamp Thing". That is when the unrulely kids dont drown you when they jump in.

Nice to know SOMEONE out there finally agrees with me about SOMETHING. No question about it - the place is crawling with resident BUMS. And the "HEATED" pool is often ICE cold in the cooler season. Live in a WALMART parking lot and you will meet nicer neighbors...

I totally agree... as we speak I can hear the maintenance guy blowing leaves around and some a-holes installing carpet above me at 7am while I'm trying to sleep to go to work tonight. These are by far the worst apartments I have ever lived in, and the last. Thanks Rancho SERENE? Serene is a joke.
