Checked out these apartments recently. Ummm... they're so so. Admittedly it was only a quick look, but you can still get a sense of the place from that. First thing to notice is that the apartments do look old very used. It felt like being in a car from the 80's that had lots of previous owners. Things aren't as clean as they could be. There was also a bad odor in the apartment or maybe it was just the one we looked at. The office staff didn't come off as rude, but it was a first meeting. When I asked questions about why they go to month to month rather than have a fixed 12 month lease or what not, I started to see the argumentative why are you such an idiot side people have been talking about.

I've got to say though, the Roman tubs are very nice and the space for the price cannot be beat. The single entrance and exit seemed very inconvenient especially if you work when everyone else does it seems like it would get crowded. No opinion on the crime.

The one thing that keeps me from renting here is their policy of not accepting personal checks. They take down your credit card information, bank account information, and get personal references before they'll let you in, but they will not accept a personal check from you. That's an insult. Beyond that being an insult, that also makes it harder for you to pay your bill. The only reason to make it harder to pay your bill is if the complex wants you to get late fees. If you enjoy buying money orders and cashiers checks all the time to pay your rent, then this is the place for you. For the rest of you find a better neighborhood preferably one without 3 sex offenders.

Well I just moved out of that hell-hole after living there for a year. I was a good tennant with no problems. I had good credit and job history. Somehow that ment that I had to pay, which turns out to be the standard, $1200 security deposit. I know ex-cons with bankrupy's that paid less security deposit at other places. Of course the staff is soooo nice when you first move in, then hello ----- city. As far as lease, it was six months for me not month to month. But of course it goes up every time you renew. The roman tubs are excellent - to look at. I could never get it more than a quarter of the way full before the hot water heater ran out of hot water. 80 gallon tub, 40 gallon hot water heater. You do the math. So if you like cold baths, perfect! As far as crime, I never had a problem. The area is gated and a very proactive security guard was great. We had a few people move in that were evicted quickly after problems. So they were good about keeping the rift-raft out. However, now it seems that every Cholo from LA is moving in. So if you love to be woken up by screaming Mexican babies at 2 AM, its good for you. The money orders were a pain in the ass. Glad I'm done with them. Overall, the apartments could be much better managed. I'm renting a house now in a good part of town and couldn't be happier. I would not recommend Sandpiper to anyone else. I'm still crossing my fingers about getting my security deposit back......
