Look Beyond the Surface . . .

Its easy to get into these lovely units; however, living here and getting out without HUGE fines and secondary costs is a Houdini act, if successful. The complex looks like it refinanced at the peak of the housing craze while it is also seated with an expansive construction deficit matter where outdoor surface treatments crumble off in gentle hands. Then there is the cost of living next to seemly types who just well, don't seem to get life. When the one household had to contend with a shock someone was partying with the neighbor s young adult boy, we were all in fear our tires were going to get slashed: the young adult started screaming he was going to slash tires, all tires, when someone came home too early one day. I really resented having to park away and contend with something political I have no feelings for, one way or another as it was none of my business and interfered with my private home business. When I told the other neighbor his lights were on, his blitzed swirling eyes and shaking hands searched his pick-up for over 45 minutes at about 2:30 PM . . . I like to think it had nothing to do with stash and/or driving. I was just trying to be a nice neighbor. What do I know? I went to college like anyone else; however, the difference is I also attend church and offer volunteer services. Then there is the box warning on cigarettes that my train smoking neighbors cannot read. I know this due to their conversations on the patio that is littered with cigarette buds . . . they are very loud between their hacks when tight on alcohol, every day, beginning about 11:00 AM. The bronchitis bill from the hospital now that I do not have insurance coverage and have to smoke about a 1/2 pack of second hand cigarettes a day (I am a clinician and know how to medically access this) from four smokers is running into the thousands. That leaves me nothing to pay for the large exit bill I am anticipating from the (bankrupt?) landlord. Sounds like an ugly and unnecessary fight for financial survival. Then there is the hot-cold management. Better than when I came here; and, clearly stressed due to the out-of-state owner, the depressed market, and increased vacancy rate. Even the plus three days of c-o-n-s-t-a-n-t earthquake tremors last year just cannot bring humor to this site. Folks, you can rent an entire free standing home for about half what it costs here; and, there are several home owners who are absolutely desperate to have someone paying rental income on a home just outside of foreclosure. Out-of-town "corporate" here will not capitulate/get it from what I can see. Management here knows that; and, still, they offered me a renewal at a stiff rate entirely unacceptable as I also believe it reflects my temperament of not tolerating the filthy bothersome neighbors. You have to be a bit slob-ish as well as unconscious to be welcome here. Better to rent a free standing home and put up with neighborhood antics than antics through shared walls, vents, patios and parking lots.

It sounds as though we lived near or in the same building. I applaud your comments and feel exactly the same way. I wrote letter and sent pictures to the owners/cooporation in Colorado to obviously blind eyes and deaf ears. Spread the word.
