First off I was not a resident-I am the PARENT of a resident and a military veteran so I have signed A LOT of leases in my travels. My son and I heard of this place during his senior year of high school. I didn't really want him in the dorm since I prefer the he enjoy the flexibility of cooking and having a little more privacy. I seems like a great deal up front as long as you have good roommates. He did and I was relatively confident that he would be safe living with life-long classmates. The apartment they show you is nice, clean and well furnished for what it is. I especially liked that fact that there were covered, gated parking directly across the street from UNR. Another perk: you don't have to share a room with anyone. Rent was reasonable and I felt he could save money buying and cooking for himself rather than high-fat, missed dorm meals that never seem to fit in with your scheduled.

Now for the negatives: the "manager" is HORRIBLE! She goes out of her way to harass and belittle these kids. She attempts to intimidate them and make them seem stupid and forgetful when it is she covering for her own faults. When my son legally asked to be released from his lease because he was joining the military, she told him that he would have to continue to pay for the remainder of the year. When we (parents) pointed out the "Soldier and Sailor Act of 1940" which legally released him from the lease and the fact that she was breaking the law she was sweet as punch and stated that my son hadn't informed her of that. This is B.S.! I know because I wrote his notice to terminate his lease myself-it was the 2nd sentence and mentioned throughout.

Every chance she got Sandy went out of her way to generally delay and hinder this process until we threatened her with a suit. It took multiple phone calls from us parents to get anything out of her. Oh yeah, then it took 6 weeks for a deposit check to be refunded-which also took multiple phone calls and threats of law suits. Then to make it worse, we were charged $75 for a crappy chair he never got in the first place. This, in spite of the fact that we replaced it with a better one. We were also charged $15 for a broken screen that one of the tenants acknowledged to her he had broken himself. This woman is an unethical CROOK.

The place is noisy and not all the tenants are even students. Furthermore, maintenance is slow at best and we had to pay a "cleaning deposit" even though it was dirty when my son moved in and clean when he moved out.

I have a daughter graduating this year and although initially thought she might live here-that will NEVER happen. It just isn't work the headache.

Bottom line: there are better places to live that are near as stressful, STAY OUT OF THIS PLACE! I would like to rate staff lower than one star, but this system doesn't make it possilbe.

If you would correctly read the "Soldier and Sailor Act of 1940" you would see that it is for someone that is on Active Duty. WHO IS COVERED BY THE ACT This Act has been in force continually since 1940. It applies at all times not just when the U.S. is at war. The primary benefits are granted directly to persons in the military service. "Person in military service" is defined to include full-time members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, officers of the Public Health Service (when detailed by proper authority for duty with the Army or Navy), and those persons who are on active duty with the reserves or the National Guard. For those full time members of the five branches of the service, the protections apply from the date of entry into the military; for those who are in the reserves or the National Guard, the protections start when they are called up to active duty. As you can see, joining the National Guard is NOT considered active duty.
