Nice place to live, but...

I lived in Lakeride Apartments for just over 3 years. The office staff was friendly and fixed any problems that I reported within 24 hours. The grounds were very nice and well-kept and the parking was convenient, and it felt very home-like overall. I never had any problems with things being damaged or stolen due to very good 24-hour security. The free membership to Lakeridge Tennis Club was a very nice benefit too.
However, the building maintenance wasn't very good. My apartment had stains on the ceiling and over the slider from previous water damage that I ended up fixing myself, and the paint was literally falling off the railing around our patio area. We also had a mouse problem, which the office didn't do much about except buy us mouse traps and offer to poison them, which I didn't let them do since we have a young child. Eventually, we found where they were getting in and fixed it ourselves at our own expense.
Another problem I'm having is in getting my deposit back. We were good renters and always paid on time for 3 years, so Lakeridge Apartments ended up making over $30,000 off of us. We gave the required amount of notice and cleaned the apartment really well before we left, actually leaving it cleaner than when we moved in. Now, it has been two months since we moved out and I have had to call the office daily to inquire about the status of our damage deposit refund of $220. I expect to get the full amount back, because the lady who checked us out of the apartment said "looks good, I don't see any problems". So I found out that my deposit wasn't returned promptly (in 30 days, as the lady said) because they lost our file. They still have not found it. Then, when I said I have copies of the original lease agreement, they backtracked and said they found it. Now today, when I called them to check on it again, they said it's still lost but the owner is finally in the office and has signed the check, so I can pick it up tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. I feel like they are trying to cheat us out of $220, after we paid them over $30,000 and kept up our end of the bargain.
Bottom line... nice place to live, but very disorganized management and don't expect to see your damage deposit ever again, even though you did no damage. I personally think the owner is never in the office because he's living off everyone's damage deposits that never get returned!
