I am going to keep updating this review in hopes it will dissuade prospective renters from signing a lease with Northtowne Summit Apartments and being stuck here for 13 months (yes, that is the lease period). It is very likely you will regret it and feel trapped, as I do.

----------

My opinion of Northtowne Summit Apartments is about as low as it gets. I've rented dozens of times over the years and it's never been this bad.

Just a little background: I do not have a problem with the staff here. I've never had any issues with them, so this review is not written out of spite. Unfortunately, I do feel as though the staff is aware of the numerous problems with this complex but cannot say anything about it to potential renters. About the only other negative thing I could say about them is that I believe they are asked to post fake reviews on sites such as this one to boost Northtowne's ratings.

I live in a downstairs unit. I can hear
*every single footstep* of the couple upstairs. It sounds as though they are walking on their heels. My ceiling actually makes a loud cracking sound when they walk across their floor. In case you're wondering, no, they are not overweight. I am paying over $800 a month (1BR) for what is tantamount to psychological torture.

In addition to hearing the footsteps, you can also hear all water outlets in the upstairs unit, such as sinks and showers. The pipes leading to their shower and bathroom sink are so loud that I was woken up at exactly 7:20 AM every morning when they showered to go to work, no exception. The pipes sound like they are in my bedroom. I have been having to sleep using earplugs for the last few months so I am not woken up until my alarm goes off.

If they decide to wash clothes at midnight, the motor of their clothes washer rattles my bedroom walls.

I had a friend visit me recently whom I gave use of the bedroom. She commented about being woken up by the upstairs shower pipes and footsteps without me soliciting an opinion.

The heating and air conditioning is a joke. If you happen to visit, take a look at the size of the A/C units outside of the buildings. That should give you a good idea of how capable they are. As for heat, right now it's 20 degrees outside and I have to close the vents in the bathroom and bedroom to heat the living room. When I hold my hand in front of the vent, it's barely blowing. I checked the filter and it's clean, so that is not the issue.

The other day, I noticed that the cable tv outlet plate was loose on my wall. When I went to tighten the screws, I noticed the smell of cigarettes eminating from the gaps in the plate. My neighbor obviously smokes. It makes me wonder how much of that is getting into my apartment. My bathroom also reeks of cigarette smoke. I finally tracked the smell down to the small gaps in the medicine cabinet which lead to the inside of the wall.

A note about security. A few months ago, I was driving up to the entrance and two cars of gangbangers were waiting near the entrance for me to open the gate. I had no choice but to open it and drive through, as the gate stays open if it senses a car. Both cars followed me right in and drove around me as I parked. I have also had a guy follow my car in and then ask me for gas and food money. So much for the security company Northtowne employees. I can honestly say that I have not seen them one time since I have lived here. The cameras are obviously not a deterrent, either.

Northtowne Summit Apartments is absolutely not recommended. This is widely considered to be a ghetto area. I was not aware of this at this time I moved in. In addition to the questionable location, the complex is built cheaply with thin walls and floors. Find somewhere else, seriously. It's overpriced and there are better apartment complexes out there if you look. Do NOT get duped by all of the fake reviews on this and other sites. The fake ones are pretty easy to spot, with usernames such as "happy001" and such.

I would not be writing this negative review if I were in a 1BR paying maybe $500 or less a month. As I mentioned before, I am paying over $800. Yes, I signed the lease, but there was no way to tell just what kind of experience I was signing up for. Don't make the same mistake I did.

100% true review. The property and the management are both garbage.
