GRAD STUDENTS KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE

First of all, if you are smart enough to check the reviews of this place, you have probably noticed that with every horrible review of this place, there seem to be a few really great reviews that come right after the bad reviews. I have strange a feeling that the management, who are quite sneaky in general, are writing in, or having their 'renter friends', write in these raving reviews after the really horrible reviews.

Well, Like the foreign student wrote in before - grad students need to keep away from this place. First, you will be charged a hefty security deposit. But don't expect to get any of it back. What they do is they make you sign a form a month before you leave the room. After the year is up, they then charge you for two months of utilities plus any other special fees, like cleaning your room again (after you already cleaned it) or charging you for some problem in the apartment (which are all listed on the form you signed) whether you had anything to do with the damages or not. So, instead of getting back your security deposit - they send you a bill! I am not kidding about this. When you get in the place, you pay for the first month of utilities after your first full month. So, not only does the management run a shady operation by not returning the security deposit, but they also double dip you on the utilities.

They say there is a special rate for grad students. Well, I have heard many different rents from different grad students at the place. So, I guess, your rent goes on how well they can get away with charging you more.

They will put anyone, and I mean anyone, into the same apartment complex with you. It could be an 18 year old kid who never left his parent's house before, or a 'non-traditional' student, as they call it, with some weird vibes. Don't believe the garbage about only living with other grad students.

If you have complaints about something, or something doesn't work, it is up to the whim of the manager to fix it. Sometimes they charged us with the bill saying that it was our fault. One of the managers is a weird Evangelical Christian guy who does stuff according to his fancy, and explains his actions by quoting stuff from the Bible.

Most of the apartments are infested with ants. I am not kidding about this. Come fall and spring - the kitchen area, including your food cabinets, is a hard core ant colony. The apartment managers are too cheap to hire exterminators.

I moved in because I thought it was cheap, and because of its location right near the university. But you can find a better rent deals just looking around the university neighborhood, and this means especially getting your own place, and recently, housing prices have dropped considerably in Reno.

Don't assume that lease agreements are legal. They cannot legally charge you for upgrades, so the scam in all of these apartments is to make it sound as if you damaged the apartment. This is as old as the hills, this scam. Did you take pictures? Call the Nevada small claims court and see how much it is to file. Most judges rule in favor of the tenant, especially it is fishy that they took so long to bill you later? Let the landlord explain that in small claims court. Just because they make you sign forms, doesn't mean it is legal. Most of these people push the paperwork in their favor, and will drop it once notified of small claims court. You are being manipulated by the scripture quoting nut case. He must think God is on the side of cheats like himself. Small claims court is cheaper than paying all of this, believe me. Yes, many of these rave reviews are phony. Make them accountable for you and not to be so hasty to shaft the next tenant.
