Good property - decent value

I think the key here, as with any aging complex, is to see the unit you are going to get before signing anything (sounds obvious but...) because each of the units has fixtures, appliances etc that span a 50 year period and are at various points in their life cycle. Also make sure that you are not near Van Rensselaer due to the road noise (especially in the AM/PM rushours) - was hard to sleep in on your day off if you had the window cracked even an inch.
Have lived in River's Edge, private duplex, private four unit, Dutch Village and my new place (un-named). This was probably the best all around, but I think if Albany Management tweaked a few items they would have the premier property in the Albany Area. In my mind its hard to command about a grand a month (which is a huge percent of someones pay) when the bathroom has a 30 year old bathroom sink/counter that has been waterlogged and ruined about 10 years ago, among other similar items.
Pros:
-grounds are very nice
-prompt service from staff
-close to everything
-architecture is unique
-can get heat included (how much or little isn't controlled by you)
-full size gas stove
Cons:
-road noise from Van Rennselaer was about a 9.0/10.0 (if you're on that side and like to have your windows open from May-October)
-expensive per sqft compared to other complexes - frequent increases
-frequent notices for additional information on your insurance, pets, cars, screen window cleaning (done yourself), etc
-1/2 sized fridge
-1 bedroom layout with small bathroom, kitchen, closets not practicle for 2 people
-one of 2 washers in my building didn't work for 1.5/2.0 years I lived there
-aging fixtures, appliances and cabinetry from various decades
-little ventilation, no fan in bathroom
