Somewhat Average Place...But I Definitely Won't Be Back!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 4/1/2008
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
i lived in Loudon Arms last year and decided to write a review because of how helpful these reviews were for me in chosing apartments.
Pros:
- Heat & Hot Water included in rent
- EXTREMELY close to I-90 & 787
- SOME off street parking
- cheap electric bill
- safe neighborhood
- pool & fitness center
(but i never used either. i had a corporate gym & the pool wasn't open long before i left in June..)
Cons:
- NO control over heat.
(i used to have to open my windows in FEBRUARY when it was snowing so i could cool off.)
- Not everyone can park in provided parking lots.
(last year, i got towed for parking in front of my apartment complex. i was told that the streets in front of the apartments belonged to loudon arms, and not the city of albany. but one morning i woke up for work, and my car was GONE. turns out, the city posted signs at around 7:00 the night before. i got home from work at 8:00, and it was too dark to see the signs. so don't think your car is 100% safe on the street - even if they say it is. Loudon Arms wouldn't even reimburse me for the 3 hours i missed of work and the $70 i had to pay to get it out of tow. they said the signs had been "up for days". absolutely untrue.)
- Small kitchen
(but still manageable)
- Somewhat average Maintenence services..but nothing stellar
(three months before i moved out, the people above me dumped draino into their drains, but didn't flush them with water. so it ate through their pipes and started dripping water through my ceiling. i told the maintenence people about it, and they said they would take care of it. i went away for a weekend, and when i came back, i found that my ENTIRE bathroom ceiling had fallen into my tub and sink. there was a huge gaping hole in my ceiling, and i obviously couldn't use my bathroom. i called the maintenence staff, who said they could get there monday morning. maybe. so they came, and only fixed about half of it. the rest, they said they would get to on tuesday. the job was barely a patch job, and they didn't reconstruct it all the way. therefore, i can only expect that to happen again.)
- the walls were paper thin
(i could hear people having normal conversations upstairs. there was also a lot of noise when i was living there...but i had to keep my windows open because it was so hot!)
i would recommend this apartment for students, but i don't think i would recommend it for working professionals. there are definitely better deals, in my opinion. but if you're willing to deal with the extreme heat (sometimes in the high 70s or 80s, with no controls) and a possible maintenence issue or two (they were usually pretty good) then Loudon Arms will definitely suit you.
