The reason there were so many positive reviews lately is because Tri-City rentals (who owns Woodlake apartments) is having a contest to win $250 if you write a review on apartmentratings.com. The only catch is you have to paste your review in an e-mail to them, so of course it has to be positive. So be careful by going by the reviews on here posted the past 3 weeks for any Tri-City renatls property, especially if they seem very positive! I have lived in Woodlake for almost a year. Here is my honest review:
CONS: Rent is overpriced for what you get. Unfortunately, this is likely the case for any apartment in this area! My apartment was newly renovated when i moved in, and at quick glance it looked great. If you look a little closer and know how to do quality fix-it jobs yourself you will realize that they did a low-quality job. The grout on the tiled floors started coming out within a month, and the floor was not leveled before it was tiled. Parts of my brand-new carpet were not glued well and started to come up within 5 months. You can see where they taped the drywall underneath the walls. Basically, they try to get the job done cheap by sacrificing the quality. A few times i didn't have a place to park in front of my building because there is no assigned parking (which is a good thing if you have a lot of guests or more than 1 car, but a bad thing if you always want a place near your building). You have to pay for guests at the pool, which I don't agree with. You can hear loud talking, music, etc through the walls and floor, as well as smelling food through the walls and floor that the neighbors are cooking. The gym is way too small for such a big complex! The electric hook-up is strange. In the rooms you have to add your own lights, there is more than one switch hooked up to separate outlets. So for instance, if you turn your bedroom light on by your door, you can't turn it off by the switch next to your bed, because they are not on the same line. This is very annoying! Washer and dryers are $1.25 each per load and the dryers take at least 2 cycles because they are old.
PROS: Nice main pool in the summer. Safe area, where you can walk the 1 mile perimeter around the complex. Pretty scenery with small lakes and lit-up fountains (only views from your apt if you have a lake view apartment...but they do cost more). Well maintained in the winter..I didn't have a problem getting out for work at 6:30 AM when it snowed. Apartments have a nice balcony (would recommend 2nd floor balcony over 1st floor patio), inexpensive electric bills (under $100 most of the year for my 1 bedroom..slightly over $100 during the winter months). Maintenance comes within a few days if you have something to complain about, so I recommend calling if anything is wrong because they will fix it (they'll even come to change a lightbulb). High ceilings, spacious apartments and big walk-in closets for the ladies! Carpeted floors and tiled entranceway, bathroom and kitchen, which looks very nice (again unless you look really closely).
In summary, remember that Woodlake Apartments is overall a nice and safe place, just overpriced. And it annoys me that Tri-City rentals wants people to write positively-skewed reviews for the chance to win $250, so I tried to keep my review un-biased.

Again, there is no such contest. It is simply Woodlake's rental agents submitting false positive reviews.

The above comment to this rating is incorrect/lie. There actually is a contest, where you are entered to win $250 if you put a rating on this site. There is no incentive to rate Woodlake w/ an especially good rating, though people may feel the need to rate it high b/c you have to post your rating in an email. I imagine that Tri-city is doing it b/c generally only the disgruntled people take the time to post reviews (which is why most complexs have very poor reviews). I put up my review to enter into the contest (see an earlier review). I'm only on now b/c I'm looking for other apartments. My girlfriend and I have to move b/c of new employment (otherwise it's a very nice complex).

I'm wondering how much the heating bill will run in summer as opposed to winter. Could anyone help me out?

I have a one bedroom apartment and the electric bill is around $30-$40 in the summer if you don't use the central air, if you use the central air it is more around $80. In the winter, the max I have paid in my two years is $130-$140. You have to be careful though; if you use the electric heat your bill will be sky high... there are gas heaters in the apartments which are definately more inexpensive.
