If you like mold and landfills...you'll love this place

Alexan Brookhaven was a great place to live and I had no complaints, but as soon as it became Atlantic Point and new management took over it has been getting worse and worse. And I have an interesting story to tell...
In April of 2005 I contacted the office regarding mold that was growing in my apartment. No one showed up to correct the problem, so I kept calling. I informed them that I am extremely allergic to mold and that mold spores trigger my asthma...they couldn't care any less. 5 months later I decided that my phonecalls were not getting anywhere, so I wrote a letter to management explaining the situation...no response. I had finally had it. At the end of October I sent them a certified letter stating that I was terminating my lease based on Real Property Law section 235b (tenants right to a livable, safe, and sanitary apartment). I kept the apartment in great condition and expected a fair amount of my 3 month security deposit to be returned. 1 month later instead of receiving a refund I received a collection notice for over $5,000.
Other Problems:
Security
It's a gated community with a guard station...only problem is the gates are never closed and there has never been a guard on duty.
Noise
There are a lot of teens that hang out in Atlantic Point apartment complex until 3-4AM, sometimes showing off their new subwoofers.
Maintenance
Besides the problem with mold in my apartment...there was one time when a street lamp fell down in the Atlantic Point apartment complex and it took them 3 weeks to remove the broken lamp, replacing it with a cone. There are also major drainage issues and my car was destroyed in a flood during the last rainstorm (not only did they refuse to help pay for any damages, they also had my car towed and made me pay to get it out).
Community Features
It's great that they have a billiard table and an indoor basketball court, but good luck trying to find a time when it's not occupied.
Remember, this is only my opinion. I know how eye-appealing the Atlantic Point apartment complex can be to a potential resident. If you decide to take the plunge, do your self a favor and sign the shortest lease-term available.
I do have photos of the mold in my Atlantic Point apartment. If you would like me to email them to you, please email me a request at peterjp80@gmail.com

We know exactly who this resident is. He and his girfriend broke their lease and were furious at the lease break fees. He did have mold in the apartment, but that is because he never informed us of the issue. This was later proven with our records when we went to court after they sued us for their security deposit back. They lost. Becaus these comments were made by a disgruntled resident, we will not comment on his other points. |
