I lived at Atlantic Point for three years. While the grounds/pools are beautiful, there really are many cons that would make me not rent here again.
- The apartments are poorly insulated. The closet in my bedroom faced the outside of the unit and was not insulated at all. I needed to stuff towels under the door when it was below freezing to keep out the draft. I did notify management and they gave me a space heater. Not really the best solution, as I was paying a high rent, my own heat, and also had to pay the additional electric to keep from freezing in the winter.
- There is definitely a bug problem. I honestly have never seen so many bugs in my life. Spiders, ants, some sort of worms that would emerge each spring. I was constantly killing bugs!
- You cannot have Verizon phone service and must use Cablevision for your phone and internet service. Cablevision has an "agreement" with management that they are to be the sole provider of these services. Be warned that whenever the cable goes out, so does your phone service. God forbid there is an emergency during a storm. I can see the lawsuits now.
- There is no snow removal during snow storms. During my first lease, they shoveled the walkways. After that, it was the residents responsibility. I have never not had the access way to my apartment not shoveled, ever. This is luxury living'
- Overall, the materials used in the apartments are very low quality. Not at all what I would expect given the amount charged for rent and the "luxury" tag placed on the apartments by management.
- Right in the middle of an emerging industrial park. Before my last lease was signed, I was never informed that the property behind me would be a construction zone. There were spotlights from the construction site shining right in my bedroom window at night and construction noises into the night and by seven each morning. What a horror show!
There are definitely better choices out there for the amount of rent you are paying.

Thank you for your review. Although we are dissapointed that you were not happy here, we respect your opinion and we realize we cant make everyone happy. We do value your opinions, however we take exception to a few comments. I would like to address your concerns individually: 1- Poor insulation - We do not argue that today's construction is not the best, and we are no exception. Although we had insulating problems, we corrected many of the issues. As far as the space heater, maybe this was not the best solution but we did what we could at the time. I personally took the time to purchase a space heater for you because I did not want you to be uncomfortable. I'm sorry this did not satisfy you, however again, it was all I could do at the time. 2- As far as the bug "problem", if you read our comments throughout the site, you will see that we never say we do NOT have bugs. We have bugs like any other community or private home would have. We have a regular pest control maintenance service company that does a fabulous job. This service is available free of charge to any resident that wishes to utilize the service. 3- Your comments regarding Cablevision bother me. There is no "agreement" between us and cablevision. As a matter of fact, one of the first tasks I took on as property manager here was to contact Verizon executives in an effort to bring Verizon service to the property. After many long meetings, we decided that the numbers did not work because Verizon wanted us to pay close to $1 million to install cables at the property. Does this make business sense to you? 4- As far as snow removal, we spend over $100K per year to remove snow. Our comapny does a fabulous job. As far as driveways and your front door, you have to understand that we have 795 units here with 117 acres. By the time we finish all of the units, it is spring time. We do however shovel the snow for the elderly or handicapped. There is no apartment community on Long Island that will shovel your door for you. We are sorry you do not agree. 5- As I previosly mentioned, the materials used to build this complex are average, and it was not built as the "best ever". We do consider this a luxury community simply by the fact that we have amenities that no other complex will offer. 4 pools, 3 tennis courts, indoor basketball, 24 hour fitness center, etc... 6- We are close to an industrial park. HOWEVER, it is not our responsibility to inform you of every project going up. If you ask, we would be honest and tell you. If this is so important to you, you should join local neighborhood groups who are on top of all these projects. In regards to the project you are refering too, that building was put up in a blink of an eye. I myself lived behind there and it never bothered me. Again we appreciate most of your comments, but it is unfortunate you chose to mention some things that are untrue. As far as "better choices out there", there is a website called HomeFinderLI.com. This site lists all rentals on Long Island. I encourage those reading this review to visit other properties listed on this site. I am proud to say the "better choice" does not exist. As you can see from our recent reviews, we are the best according to our renters and are very proud of that. |

I have to agree with the original poster. My gas bills in the winter were astronomical during my time at Atlantic Point. If I could make one suggestion to the present management, it would be to assess each apartment when winter arrives and properly insulate the ones that have problems. It may seem like a large expense, but it will save you many tenants in the long run. You run a lovely complex, but when you add in the extra high utility costs, it makes the apartments too expensive for most working families.

I agree with both responses, we moved out almost a year ago and at the time our keyspan bill was $ 160.00 a month for 2 people who were not home all day, and at that we still froze. I can't even imagine what it is now.

It's funny how "nolongercold" still cares about what happens with this property. Moved out a year ago, huh? Get real you jerk!

In response to the manager...while the complex surely is better than "garden apartment" living, which I lived in for 5 years before coming to Atlantic Point, there are some discrepancies to your statements. In those old garden apartments, they DID shovel our walkway to our door every time it snowed enough to do so and I know that when we moved in here for the first year, they did the same. I don't know why they would start doing it and then just stop. It is incovenient when I can't even open my door after a large snowfall becasue of the drifts. If complexes who charge a fraction of the price can, why can't you? It isn't a huge deal, but a "luxury" other places supply. As for the phone issue, when we moved in we were told that there was indeed an agreement with cablevision and that we would have no choice about the phone. We've lived with it but it is unfortunate that we cannot reap the benefits of the great combo deals offered by verizon. Additionally, this phone plan doen not offer caller ID for call-waiting, which we have asked them about numerous times. This is a basic caller ID feature that should be available. We pay for caller ID, but cannot fully use it. The point is....we here don't get a choice, and that stinks, but we did know in advance, and we chose to live here, so we deal. |

Gas bills were high in the winter, but, where on Long Island can you go and get low costs for utilities, my wife is handicapped and they made sure we had a clear path ASAP after a snow storm. We had no problems using cable for phone service, we only lost cable one time in two years, if we came back to LI, I wouldn't have any problems moving back to AP.
