For Apartment Seekers - wish I looked here too

I wish I had seen this site prior to moving but I didn't. I am not sure it would have stopped me from moving in or not but now that I have, below are my opinions with a hope that will help others decide. My rental "home" is the Tulip with 2 BTH and the little home office.
The bedrooms are a very nice size and the bathrooms are quite nice and a good size.
It is a great feature to have a driveway and garage (some bads listed below though)
The way the stairway cuts into the living room gives the apartment charm and the "study" is a great little home office if you need one. The dining area is good size and the staff does try hard. Given the enormity of the complex, the landscaping is okay. I do not use any of the community amenities but I understand they are good
While there is little acoustical noise (music, talking, TV, etc.), there is a large amount of impact noise (meaning thumping, banging, garage doors, etc.)from the adjoining apartments. There is a bit of a rodent problem - not sure what causes this as I never had this problem in any other apartment. There is also a slight insect problem (meaning ants, mosquitoes, etc.) The garage (at least the one I have) can only fit a compact car (no luxury car, SUV, truck, etc.)The driveway (mine anyway some are longer) can fit a luxury car but an SUV or truck would have trouble fitting (fortunately I have a compact car I keep in the garage and a luxury car I keep in the driveway. The kitchen is a bit inconvenient - the cabinets aren't very deep so does not fit something like a large dinner plate and there is little room to put extra cabinets and no storage space. The living room is pretty small and has only one wall since there is a fireplace (which really doesn't work very well)
There are quite a few drafts, from under kitchen cabinets, windows and doors, and fireplace. Not that much storage space or wall space available overall and a definite moisture problem.
Overall, it is okay. If you are an experienced apartment dweller you know that the most important things in an apartment are lots of storage, no noise, and good parking. If you are not experienced in apartment living, you will soon learn that these are the most important. It is difficult for me to say if I would recommend or not but based on the important things, I would have to say no even though I am kind of in the middle.

Thank you for your review. The problems we experience are common in any apartment complex. It's how we deal with them that sets us apart. The only thing I can really add is that we have more parking for our residents and their guests than any other apartment complex in Suffolk County. Thanks again for your review. |

I can't believe what this person had to say, the apartments are great I had the 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch and it was great it does have the space you need and it is handicap accesible at all points. There wasn't any noise from the neighbors and the amenities were nice and clean, the park for the kids it is also a plus. The parking is also good, I had a long driveway and was able to fit all the cars in the house and when somebody came to visit there was always additional parking space. I did not have any problems with rottens or drafts. The ants showed up once in a while but that was about it. I highly recommend the complex, you get a lot for what you pay.

Apartment seekers...never accept any review that is over the top good or over the top bad. Also, never accept a managment response that states anything like "problems are the same everywhere" or "we have the most" or we have the best".
You should only consider reviews that name the good experiences as well as the bad experiences. If you do that there would be only about 20 revies on this apartment.

This review is pretty dead on and honest, and if you are in one of the apartments that has never experienced the mice, ants, wet carpet or draft...you're lucky and must LOVE it here.
I love my apartment also, just because it has become my home after 4 years of living here. They are nice looking apartments, roomy, bright, but,all of the above ARE actual issues.
The mice and ants you can take care of, but the draft is what bothers me the most. If you have a two level apartment, it's either the downstairs is FREEZING, or the upstairs is a HOT BOX, because I don't think the heat is distributed properly due to the vent placement upstairs, and the heat is just not held in downstairs for long at all. So I have learned to set the temp according to when I am upsatirs or downstairs most, warmer when i am downstairs, cooler when i am upstairs sleeping.
The noise and parking though I would disagree with...the parking all depends on how many cars you have... if it's 3 or more, then obviously you will have parking problems, but, that's your own issue, the complex shouldn't need to provide 5 spots an apartment....the noise, that all depends on your neighbors, I've had quiet ones that i don't hear a peep from, and then ones that you hear banging going on constantly, so, this also can't be helped, it's just luck of who lives next to you.
One last thing though...it is NOT a gated community, if that is one of the main reasons you like it. Gates have worked maybe 30% of the time I have lived here. They should stop spending $ on fixing the gate every week, and just put a guard in the empty guard house sitting there...it would probably be chaeper.
