We have been living here just over a month now. For the most part it's very nice. People complained about the appliances and cheap cabinets, carpet etc. Well it's an apartment, not a condo, what'd you expect' And you are allowed to paint, so go ahead and jazz your place up! And if you can afford too, you can replace the appliances and keep the "old" ones. When/if you move out, simply swap them back.
We do have lots of ants in the house, and having a 5 month old daughter it's very disturbing to me. And I wont allow her on the floor. There was no weather stripping on either door and so there were large gaps, I assumed this is where they were coming from. I replaced the stripping myself and there are no longer gaps at either door, but this did not solve the problem. I have decided to place ant traps in the house rather than call an exterminator for fear of poisoning my daughter or cat.
I think the fees for having cats is ridiculously high. The point of a security deposit is to off set any damage people/pets have done to the apartment, so why the extra $$$' Simply deduct any damage an indoor, spayed, declawed cat had done like you are supposed to. Having such high fees and charges for pets makes it seem like it's not actually pet friendly, like they are trying to dissuade people form having them.
The grounds are well kept and all of our neighbors are nice and quiet and the common areas are clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Maintenance guys are very nice and helpful as well.
I do not understand why you cannot use a float tube for a baby in the pool... they don't take up lots of room by any means. I have a hard time being able to enjoy the pool with my baby cause I have to stand there and hold her the whole time. She is much too young for "wings" as I was told to use by the lifeguard. So I do not get to enjoy the pools, which was one of our deciding factors in choosing this place. When we were looking I specifically asked if babies were allowed in the pool, I was told yes, but didn't think to ask about floatation devices. They should have mentioned that they are not allowed.
We have been waiting for a kitchen window screen since we moved in, "it has not arrived yet" - I feel things like this are things that should be "in stock" so to speak. There is a WONDERFUL cross breeze I cannot take advantage of. Along these same lines I also think there should be storm doors in place as well, it would be wonderful to have the two doors open and have that breeze and fresh air. However, the apartment cools down quickly and holds in the cool air which is wonderful. We can put the AC on for a couple of hours in the evening and the whole place is comfy and stays that way all night.
I have had no trouble at all with the appliances. In fact the dryer here dries clothes much faster than the one we used to have.
I noticed a couple of people complained about the layout, well you are given a choice as to which to choose, and even a tour of all available layouts, so why'd you choose that one'
I am very disappointed in the gate situation. Since they obviously have never worked, why are we charged for them' I believe for every month they are not working every resident should get their money back that we spend for them, we pay for the privilege. So if we're not getting what we pay for, we should get that money back. And management is constantly saying they are working on it. Well get it fixed or refund the money we are all spending for a "gated community" that we do not in fact have. I may look into whether this is false advertising - and I have NEVER seen a security guard anywhere on the grounds. So why the little huts' To just make it LOOK like we have security'
I do like it that there seems to be frequent events for the community, it's wonderful for new residents to meet our neighbors like that. I am looking forward to the BBQ they are having Friday.
Over all we really like living here so far. And I would recommend it to someone, BUT I would make sure to tell them about things like ridiculously high fees for pets, no floatation things for babies allowed, the gates have never worked but you still pay for them, and there are no security guards.

| Thanks for your review. Ants - You may not know that we have a weekly exterminator service free of charge. They come twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, so you can give us a call and we will take care of it. Weather stripping - We have a wonderful maintenance staff here that could have corrected the problem for you. In the future, if you ever have any issues, please give us a call and we will take care of it. You should not have to fix anything. Pet fees - These fees are ancillarry income for the property. This is a business after all. Some properties may charge less, but we disclose all of our fees before you move in. Floats in pools - Unfortunately this is a suffolk county rule and we can only enforce it. Screens - We do have these in stock and I apologize for this inconvenience. If this is still the case, please call me directly (mark) and I will personally take care of it. Gates - ...are up and running since 8/1. We trully apologize for the wait. We were doing our best. Security - We now have a security patrol here at night seven days per week. Thanks again! | |

Atlantic Point is one of the apartments I am considering. Can anyone comment on my comments/ questions below, your suggestion is welcome
(1) Title: Dump
According to the satellite photo, the famous DUMP is situated between Woodside/Horse Block/ Sunrise where is closer to AP???s Orchid Circle blocks. IS the smell really bad? I guess it depend on your tolerance level??? Anyway, is it worse than the smell in NYC???s hot summer humid day? ???
(2) Title: Bugs???
It seems like there are a lot of comments about ants, bugs, even mouse issue??? If I choose to live in AP, may be I should NOT live close to the dump, ponds, and first floor???!?
BTW, have anyone try those electronic bugs repellent device? It will emit certain high frequency EMF to repel bugs. Of course, it may present an issue to your pets???
(3) Title: Rent
In term of NY???s high cost of living, AP???s rent is very reasonable. Let me put it this way, no one should expect to have a new Lexus for the price of a Kia
(4) Title: Utility cost
I guess it will depend on the floor plan and usage, and hope it will not higher than $ 250 to $300. Anyway, I assume LIPA has some sort of budget plan, right? How about Keyspan?
(5) Title: Gates
Personally, I have lived in more than 6 apt. complex in the last decade in different states??? Gate mean absolutely nothing??? it will not prevent nor deter crime. As an Electrical Engineer, I know for the fact that it does not cost much and it???s extremely easy to ???eavesdrop??? on security gate???s and garage electronic codes anyway
(6) Title: Misbehavior neighbors
Well, this is a tough one. I certainly hope AP management will do their best to take care of it. If it gets to the point that it affect your quality of life, there always some ways to take matter into your own hands without your neighbors knowing it ???
