Telling it like it is, good and bad...

Long review, but here it is...THE TRUTH!

I have been here since January 08 and for the price you are paying, I would say that it is a bargain. I have read other reviews of other people complaining about appliances and such, but honestly those people need to realize that this is a RENTAL APARTMENT!!! This isnt your actual home in your own name, so just deal with it. If little things like that bug you, then try moving somewhere else because I guarentee that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Prior to AP, I lived in a so-called "ritzy" and overpriced Avalon community and it wasnt half-way as decent as it is here, and I was paying double the price for a one bedroom...here I have three!

As for the gates...well honestly (and I know management reads this) THEY HAVE NEVER WORKED... I've never seen the gates work. I remember in the early spring when they were attempting to fix them but I dont have a clue on why they stopped. However AP management, I suggest that when you DO fix them, please take into consideration those of us who commute using taxi's to work and the trainstations. I and some others leave as early as 6am so we would need the gates open by that time.

As for security...I have yet to see anyone with a security suit anywhere on the premises. They have these two little "security offices" at each enterance of the complex and the blinds are always down because no one is ever there...EVER! It's pretty much to fake you out and make you think that your secure, but dont rely on it. Anyone can stroll inside this complex. But that doesnt mean that I dont feel safe nor have I witnessed violent activities of any sort.

The gyms are cool, nice pools. The lifeguards dont really do much but chat with all the other teens that go to the pools. I've even seen them drink and smoke at the pool which is --------.

The closets are big, but the layout is horrible. The railings and shelves are set in a way that dont really let you take advantage of the space within the actual closet. So really, its just a waste of space that gets added to the floorplan.

The landscaping is amazing!!! Whoever the landscapers are, they are seriously wonderful at what they do! Everything is always manciured and maintained.

Being a pet friendly community is also a plus...but the fact that this is also right next to the Brookhaven animal shelter also sucks because there are always stray cats everywhere. However, I've never really seen the dog runs get much use.

Apparently as per a letter that was sent there have been a couple of car break-in's recently which I'm sure is a result of pesky teenagers who are up to no good on summer nights.

And as for parking, yeah its an issue. Its an issue mainly because you have greedy tenants who like to take up the guest spots instead of empyting out the crap in their garages and storing their cars in there. One guy i knew of kept parking his rusted old car in other peoples driveways when they would go away on vacation or would move out. This annoyed me to no end because not only does he have his garage but his driveway easily fits two cars. The driveway situation doesnt make too much sense to me and here is why: A three bedroom in AP will at most have a driveway which can fit up to two mid size cars, but some two bedrooms and even one bedrooms have driveways so long that they fit up to 3 and 4 cars PLUS their garage space!!! That REALLY makes no sense to me at all!

I dont find the walls to be thin at all, theyre actually pretty standard.

The carpet is also standard, which you are entitled to have cleaned at no charge everytime you renew your lease.

Backyard patios vary depending on apartment model. The paint isnt the best but you can paint over it.

As far as noise goes its pretty decent except for the loudness roars on the weekends from the motorcross park across the street.

As far as the landfill, yep its a nasty view. And nasty birds and deer ticks which give off lyme disease come with it.

You'll see a deer here and there and more types of wildlife since the complex has destroyed their habitat.

I think that the staff at the office is pretty decent. The property manager is super sweet!

For someone who works in Long Island this is ideal. For someone who works in the city, dont even think about it!!! The commute to the city is horrible, and this is actually closer to the Patchogue railroad NOT the Ronkonkoma as they say.

Nice supermarket (Stop N'Shop) nearby.

Overall the area...I guess I'm not too fond of. Patchogue is outdated and hickish. As for Bellport...well this is zoned as Bellport but I consider it to be more like Medford or even Yaphank. The complex is actually closer to the North Bellport side which is GHETTO and GRIMEY! But a simple street divides North Bellport from Bellport Village which is a world of difference both race and economy wise. I can say however that this whole area Patchogue/Medford/Bellport is pretty racist. Basically the further out east you go on the island the more racism you will encounter. Simply visit the library Patchogue and you'll see glorified pictures of KKK marches right on Main street!

Ventilation is good in my unit. The A/C and heat work well. And we dont have any moisture problems.

So overall, would I reccomend it? Maybe for someone older who works on the island. But not for a younger person who likes to commute or hang out in the city. This place is tooo far. But if your looking for a bargain, then yes your money can get you alot here, more than what you may think in the long run!

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 08/13/2008
Thanks for your review!

Gates - They are finally up as of 8/1 and working perfectly. We apologize for the delay. This was a major issue for us.

Security - We specifically note on the lease that we do not offer security, however now we do 7 days per week.

Lifeguards - If anyone sees them drinking and smoking at the pool, they should immediately notify us. They will be fired on the spot. We have used this company for 2 years now and have never had any complaints.

Area - This is definitely Yaphank or Medford even though we carry a Bellport zip code.

Thanks again for the review.
