I have lived in Co-op City for the past nine years.
Prior to that I worked in Educational Park for five years.
During that time I too have witness some changes in Co-op City.
When I first moved here they would close the parks, basketball courts and handball court at dark.
Now they dont.
All the services affecting Co-op City have been cut back.
But there are the same amounts of families living here, but we have less maintenances worker working, less of everything.
I guess the new tenants are responsible for the condition of the garages; the deteriorating terraces and let us not forget our windows.
People who live in certain area want it to stay the same.
Whenever something changes you will always get the same few complaining about how it was.
Yes Co-op City has changed but lets not blame the new people.
It has always been a fact when certain people move out and other people move in, society feels that they can cut back on basic services wait for an area to go down.
If Co- op City was given the same amount of Maintenances, Porters, Grounds, and Security Personnel today as it was given back in the sixties it would not be as some people call it A PROJECT.

You've gotto be kidding...YOURSELF! While it's true the "new" tenants can't be blamed for crumbling garages, buildings and elevators, what about the filth & crime? Don't tell me Co-op spent more on Security in the 60's and 70's than they are spending today...I know for a FACT that they are spending MUCH MORE NOW than EVER! Wakeup, it's the tenant's fault for the filth & crime, no one else's! |
