I have lived here in Co-Op city for over 30 years. The community has been declining in quality over the past 10 years. However, most importantly, YOU WILL NOT BE "BUYING AN APARTMENT". We submitted a SECURITY DEPOSIT which is referred to as "Equity". But, you can not borrow against your apartment and when you move, your "SECURITY DEPOSIT" aka "EQUITY" is DEPRECIATED!!! If you don't refurbish the apartment, your initial "investment...equity" aka "SECURITY DEPOSIT" will be widdled down to LITTLE DOLLARS!

Nobody in their right mind would buy anything in COOP city. I lived there 30 years ago. Thank God I got out when I did.

Lots of nice people in Co-op City. Kramer (Michael Richards) probably wouldn't want to live here, as the population is about 90% African American. Cheapest housing deal in New York City, for the money. You don't own, you rent, regardless of what they call it. If you can deal with ongoing construction problems (the place was never built right) then you may enjoy life in Co-op City. You could do a lot worse, especially in The Bronx.
