Long time resident (So sad)

I moved into Parkchester in 1969 and lived there most of my life.
I left for collage in 1982 and returned in 1986.
I finally left for good in 1990.
Unfortunately my parents remained until dad passed away in 2006.
I had to move mom to Texas in 2007 for fear that she may get mugged or killed.
It pains me to see how my neighborhood has declined over the years.
First, lobby doors had locks added, then intercoms put in.
Then NY Police officers.
Growing up, the worst crimes were riding your bike on the sidewalk or walking in the grass (which would get a fine tacked on the parents rent bill) Now you can see drug and alcohol consumption on the benchs next to the playgrounds I played in.
Litter strewn everywhere.
What hapened to the little old ladies sitting on the benches' (They too left for a safer haven) The class of people moving is deplorable.
Trash in hallways, urine in the stairs and elevators.
It so sad to see what Parkchester has become.
Yes the parking is horrible also.
The garages privatized to Tucson Management, but the service worsened.
Many break-ins, smelly, shakey elevators for several hundred a month.
The oval is on the rise again with new benches but they did away with alot of the foliage.
I praise the groundskeepers as they fight a never ending battle against rubbish, beer botles and cans as well as mountains of fast food containers.
Parkchester, a decent place to visit, but I would never want to live here again.
I can't believe someone actually paid mom $190,000 for her 3 bedroom 900 square foot apt with no AC, No garbage disposal and faulty plumbing and wiring.
She now owns a 1700 sq ft house on a 1/4 acre yard for 130,000...did I mention parking' She has 2 garages too.
Sorry to say goodby to PC but it has run it's course.

I lived in Parkchester for about 6 months. At first, I had the impression of a well kept community, etc. When I was offered a choice of apartment, I chose one that was right behind Macy's, thinking that I would be able to park without a problem. MY LORD!! WAS I EVER SO WRONG!!
Parking was a nightmare. No parking spots available in the complex, (I had the pleasure of feeding the meters every hour or so on the weekend)- so I paid for a slot in the nearby garage (at the time, I paid $120/mo for the privelege of parking on the top floor) - the elevator reeked of old urine, and was in fact, scary. So I would walk up/down the ramps to my car, all the while with my pepper spray in my hand. Besides having a rodent in my apartment from day one, not being able to have your own A/C, the last straw came when my young daughter ( she was 12 at the time), was approached by a young man one day when she was coming home from school, and was propositioned. This made me so angry, because I knew that there was absolutely nothing that could be done about this situation, so I decided to break my lease and leave. PROSPECTIVE RESIDENTS BEWARE!!! PC seems like a very nice community overall, but the underlying problems do not arise until after you are living there. TAKE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE.

Ladies, the problems you are listing are with SOCIETY, not Parkchester and how it is managed. There were similar issues in 1980.
Maintenance efforts are strong and elevators are not shaky. ACs have to have a special design to fit, keeping our heads protected from falling units as we walk through here. Thank you, Parkchester.
Three bedroom units are worth more than 190k and are over 1000 square feet. CPS runs the garages, and they are being restored.

I've always wondered why there ALWAYS seems to be apartment vacancies advertised constantly in the newspapers about Parkchester. I've often said to myself: "don't they ever get filled?" I used to think that maybe it was because they had just ( 1 year leases,) and every year the rent was going up or something?. One thing for sure, they do need more light over there, it's definitely quite dark, come night...which leads to robberies and rapes. I live in the Projects, yet I feel more safe over here, than over at Parkchester. At least there's some light!

The general manager ( Vinnie Adovasio ) is firing any employee who talks bad about Parkchester and hires their own family members to take their place. Vinnie has a brother-in-law working in the carpenter shop and his wife works in the office, Andrea Butler has a family member in the Gardner shop who is just standing or sitting around every time I see him, I think its because he is over weight and gets tired easy. They hired an X felon in the carpenters shop and gives him access to tenants apartments for repairs when their not home. The tenants give permission to Parkchester to gain access but they don't know that the man working in their apartment is an Ex felon. I herd from a reliable source that Vinnie has been having sex in his office after work hours. Vinnie hired a friend as management but fired him when he found out that the man was having an affair with his wife.

The general manager ( Vinnie Adovasio ) is firing any employee who talks bad about Parkchester and hires their own family members to take their place. Vinnie has a brother-in-law working in the carpenter shop who goes through the tenants personal belongings when tenants are not there and he is supposed to be there for repairs and Vinnie's wife works in the main office, Andrea Butler has a family member in the Gardner shop who is just standing or sitting around every time I see him, I think its because he is over weight and gets tired easy. Management hired an X felon in the carpenters shop and gives him access to tenants apartments for repairs when the tenant is not home. If this felon was to commit a crime or injure a tenant jarring a crime' Parkchester would be liable. The tenants give permission to Parkchester to gain access but they don't know that the man working in their apartment is an Ex felon. I don't know what this carpenter was in prison for, but I wouldn't want him around my kids. How come Parkchester doesn't do background checks on the employees? Are they afraid that if they did, then they would have to fire some of their relatives? I herd from a reliable source that Vinnie Adovasio has been having sex in his office after work hours and Vinnie hired a friend as management but fired him when he found out that the man was having an affair with his wife.

I grew up in Parkchester. Been living there since 1981 and moved later on in 2004. I guess if you have never lived in NYC before Parkchester would seem like a bad place. In my opinion its one of the better places to live in the Bronx. I think every building is relative to the people that live there. I remember seeing urine in the staircase and elevator but that was years back during the 90s. Since then it has made an increase in terms of up keep. The building i resided in and my mother still resides in is cleaner for the most part. Heating is always warm in the winter and she has A/C also. I think there are many vacancies now because they are trying to do away with the people whom were on section living there. Also there are rental increases so some people can't afford it from what they paid before.

Interesting...Does Vinnie, Ms Welsh and the others live in PC? Probably not. Yep, there's heat...to bad it comes when mgmt thinks it should, sty on as long as they deem it necessary and finally shut it down after the tems have been hoering in the 70s. Lived there since 1969 and left in 82. The best thing about it then was the friendly hellos in the elevators everyday, and the clean playgrounds (all of which are gone) My last visit their this past year was by far my best, when I finally talked my mother into selling her "huge 3 bdrm condo with no AC" What a blessing to see PC in the proverbiable rearview mirror as we left for the final time. I feel sad because the memories of a once peaceful oasis in the jungles on NYC has been taken over and destroyed. I visit friends who are stuck in their condos and like the fees, but get sick to my stomach when I enter some lobbies and walk by the parks in the morning before the portersare able to pick up after the slobs that rule the night.
Farewell Parkchester, we will see the old place never more
