I lived on Wood Road, right behind Macy's.

I applied for an apartment in Parkchester about 3 years ago; I wanted to move out of the Fordham area of the Bronx, and I thought that the "Park" was the place to go.

Well, let me tell you, I was dead wrong.

First, I inquired about parking - of course I was shown the "tenant parking area", which was at noon time so it was fairl empty.

But try getting a space in the evening, when you come home dead tired and have to spend at least 2-3 hours hoping to find a spot! I had no other recourse but to rent a parking spot at the garage on Tremont - I had to pay $120/month for a parking spot on the 8th level - then to either risk my life taking the elevator down(very spooky) or walking down the entire 8 levels.

Parking otherwise was at the meters!!!!!!

The apartment itself was nice, but very small for the $900 I was being charged.

But that is not all - if you wanted an air conditioner in your apartment, you would have to either buy one that management wanted you to pay $500 for, or have your own and wait almost a year before maintenance came to install one for you (the way the windows are, you cannot do it yourself).

Drugs were everywhere.

Open market.

Young men would hang out at the basketball court doing all kinds of things, and would harass you on your way to the parking garage.

Garbage is everywhere.

Its too bad that people don't take pride of where they live.

I am not saying everyone is the same, there are hard working people who live there and care about their environment, but then there are those who just dont give a damn.

Basically, I was a single mom, working my butt off to pay for a place which I thought would be a nice place to live, but I was dead wrong.

I moved out and now live in Orange County where I pay $800 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with all amenities and it is beautiful.

This was the best move I ever made (free parking too!!!).

I definitely would not recommend Parkchester.
