Better than Most Places in the Bronx

Parkchester is not the best of all places, but CERTAINLY NOT the worst. Ultimately, it depends on which side you live on. There are over 40,000 residents, so you have to expect some unruly tenants being the world we live in. I think it's a decent place to raise your child(ren), and the convenience of the stores are a plus (especially having Macy's in your backyard; wonderful).
I have only two complaints; if you have a car, don't move here unless you plan on parking it in the garage. I can tell you I've drove around many nights, 30 minutes on average, just trying to find a parking space. If you come home late, after 10pm, you can be in your car anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours.
If you need something fixed, the maintenance department is responsive; however, if you're a corporate worker, which most of us are, the hours are not flexible, and no help on weekends. For instance, if you had a leak, you needed an inspector to come out (appt #1) then the person to fix the leak (appt #2) then the plasterer (appt #3) and then the painter (appt #4). If you are not able to have someone there during the day, it's pretty hectic to keep a job if you need to be home during all these repairs.
Overall, I believe Parkchester is a special community. I would recommend if you move in, please move closer to the water statute in the middle of the development. The closer you are, the better your experience will be.
