I lived in Parkchester since 1984. I moved out in 2006. I watched it's slow decline over the years. Please note, that if you plan on living in Parkchester, be ready for crackheads (even the undercover crackheads), drug dealers, gangs, wannabe gangsters (which are the worst ones), trash on the grass in which the groundskeepers fight to keep clean, noise, and NO PARKING. The it's ironic they call it Parkchester without the parking. The class of neighbors and people is a coin toss. It's not the middle class neighborhood it used to be. I guess i failed to mention urine in the elevators, urine on the steps as you enter the building, urine at the front door where the intercom is, and then there's the miscellaneous urine that can pop up anywhere. I'm saying, don't be shocked if you move in and you are stepping in urine every now and then. I do not recommend Parkchester, especially for people with children.

Yeah.. sounds like a DREAM location. No wonder people are paying
$4600.00 rents just to keep away from nabes like this. It's a shame... if they evacuated the complex, redid it and called it Park Terraces and charged huge rents it would fill up with well off working people and suddenly it would be one of New York's BEST neighborhoods. If Americans really thought about that reality... those drug dealers and gang members wouldn't be striding around like they owned the joint.. they'd be running cuz every man, woman, child, and old person would be gunning them down like squirrels for roadkill. The thugocracy that rules among the youth in our majority poor black and latino ghettoes helps to keep rents high elsewhere and families and good young people struggling here. It's a real damned shame!

I can't say this is an exaggeration because i didn't experience your experience. But what i can say is that Parkchester is a much better complex from the 80's to the late 90's. My mother is an Police Officer and can tell stories of how horrible it was back in the days. I only lived her for about a year and have to say it's pretty decent for the Bronx. I never really liked the Bronx but the apartments are HUGE, i never experienced the urine problem, and far as management, if i ever had a problem and didn't get the help i needed from the workers at the office management was easy to approach and always made sure my problems were solved. As far as the drug dealers and the gangs, i can't comment on that cause i never experienced it. The kids here i noticed are just like kids in other neighborhoods. They are kids, and i have even witness parents scolding their kids for not behaving. One thing I would have to say is that you do have the negative people here and it's something that management should address but other than that i find this to be a very up coming environment in the up coming years

It's funny how people say that Parkchester is "far from the projects." Really? What's the difference? Compact living quarters where lower middle class individuals reside, minimal upkeeping and the impoverished running amongst the working class. Sounds like the projects to me!

I moved into Parkchester in 1988 with my husband and two small children. During the first week I lived there, I was follwed by a man with an interest for little boys. I quickly open the door to my apartment and shoved both my children inside and handle that SOB myself. I called security, but they took so damn long the man got away, not without a good deep scracth on his face and a swift kick in the ----s. Anyway, like all of us who struggle and want a better life and a safe haven for our children I moved out of Parkchester in 1992 and reside in Connecticut. The woman I sold the condo to still keeps in touch with me and she sadly says she see's the decline of what once used to be an american dream for a single woman. She became a homeowner. What I am trying to tell you people is to take a stand. Make your complaints, jot down the names of the people you speak to, the urine you smell and see, the hoodlums in the street, Take back what belongs to you. Parkchester belongs to the good hard working class, not the drug dealers. Stand together, talk to your neighbors and schedule a coffee at your homes and talk about what you can do together to help aliviate these issue. Talk to the police and ask if you can have a neighborhood watch. There is alot you can do! I know because while I was there I did what I could to keep my kids and family safe. Good Luck and God Bless,
Avc Connecticut

Sorry for your experience. To potential renters/owners do your home work there atleast 20 registered Sex offenders living in Parkchester and that's from a list I saw 2 years ago. God only knows how many more are here now!!
Whats so incredible about that is Parkchester is full of children and SCHOOLS and they have the gall to charge $150 for a back ground and credit check. How in the world were the SEX OFFENDERS allowed to rent here ??
