The Best of the Worst

First let me state that I am not a native of the Bx, but I am not from the valleys and meadows of Neverland either, so I like to think I know what I'm talking about.

I've lived in apartments my whole life and Parkchester is by far, my worse experience to date.

The good thing about Parkchester is that it's relatively cheap and it's not in the ghetto by New York standards.

It's close to public transportation and has plenty of recreational facilities in the area.

If that's all you want in a place, then this is the place to be.

Now let me list the problems.

There is absolutely NO PARKING.

Forget about it.

If you own a car, be prepared for a world of headaches.

The lots are always full, as if the residents never drive, the curb side parking is always taken too.

It's a nerve wrecking game to get a space and you will, in time, get used to it and learn to play, but you'll never like it.

There are however, these nice parking garages that you can pay for each month (they don't come cheap but you'll probably want to spend the money just to have a spot).

There's a sentry at the entrance but for some reason cars still get broken into, regularly, not occasionally.

So my advice is to get rid of the vehicle unless you work outside the city.

It'll save you money and hassle and you might think it'll waste more of your time having to leave earlier and get home later than you would if you were driving, but with all the time you waste looking for parking and fighting with traffic, you're really not losing any time at all.

Management and maintenance are horrible.

We can hear our loud and disrespectful neighbors when they blast their music or even when they walk around in their heels, so we complain to the management if it's a consistent thing, which it is with my neighbors.

We've been complaining for about a year now (we let it go for the 1st two years) and nothing has ever been done.

Maintenance will show up to work on any problems you may have in the apartment and usually in a timely manner, but they never fix the problems, they just fix the symptoms until they pop back up.

There is no central air, but don't go out getting you a window unit until you clear it with management.

And they will charge you to install it (you aren't allowed to install it yourself however) and when you leave, they will charge you to uninstall it.

The post office is horrible at handling mail.

If you go out of town a lot or receive a lot of packages, consider finding an alternate service to handle it.

The place has roaches regardless of how clean you are.

Don't let them tell you otherwise like they did me.

All in all, it the best place you can get for the price, but I'd rather pay more and live in the Throggsneck area or even in LI.

If you don't have that kind of money, like I didn't, then live in Parkchester.

It's full of headaches but there are worse places in the Bronx.
