I actually grew up in Parkchester so I've seen it's rise, decline and then rise again as I've grown up here. This is one of the best deals you're going to get in NYC as far as apartment rentals go. I did have to give up my car living here, because parking is HORRIBLE. Now I share a car with a family member and we split the costs of parking in the garage, gas and repairs when needed. But you have access to the train into the city, express bus on those days when you don't feel like dealing with the train, a quick bus ride to the #2 train, if you have a car you've got a quick ride to yonkers or white plains for shopping. My building is clean, I have the exterminator come in once every six months just for prevention and have only one had a serious incident with roaches. Since the exterminator I haven't had a problem. Call Parkchester maintenance, they will send you one free of charge if you're a renter. Neighbors are nice, everyone stays out of everyone's business. My only gripe is that I'm on the first floor and my windows face Metropolitan Ave so in the summertime if I want to have the windows open it can get quite loud. Security usually moves folks along if they get rowdy and there is a curfew in Parkchester as a whole so there's none of that hanging out on the stoop all night in the summertime nonsense you see in the projects.

Overall I have no real complaints other than the raising of the rents, but that's going on everywhere, so there's not much you can do about it. Parkchester is still one of the best deals for a renter.

This was posted by management or someone who is blind to the problems around them.It is true that no one hangs out on stoops at night. Instead we have park benches where thugs hang out, drink, and smoke pot day and night. As an added bonus we get to here music blasting from car radios at all hours as well. At least it drowns out the noise from the shootouts. For a while I thought things were getting better here because of the renovations but we are still stuck with the same ghetto people.

Um... wow. I have nothing to do with Parkchester Management. I'm a renter who grew up in Parkchester and currently reside here. The only thing I can say is that if it's so damn awful for you, then MOVE. You can't really complain about something if you're not gonna do anything to improve on what you feel is a bad situation.
