I have been residing at Parkchester for the past 3 years and honestly I find it, for the most part, fairly decent. I live on the North Side, near St.Raymond's school and the block is adorned with trees, it's pretty peaceful. My apt is huge, every time I have company they comment on the spaciousness and the hardwood floors.

I do agree with parking. With all the money that I have paid in tickets, I could have probably moved to the City. The only time that there is not alternate side parking is on Wednesday's, when you do not have to move your car at all, and weekends as well. My car has been broken in to a total of 3 times, so you definitely have to be cautious about where you park or find a parking garage.

The maintenance crew is very friendly and as of lately have been very particular about keeping the buildings clean (or at least mine, because upkeep is not the same for all buildings. For any individuals considering renting, if you want to be away from all the noise, definitely try to move to the North side or away from the Oval.

Parkchester is decent place to live with affordable rent. It's pretty close to Harlem but if you want to get to Midtown, The Village or even Lower Manhattan, it can be a pretty lengthy subway ride - depending on the time of day. The #6 is the closest train and runs express during rush hour during the weekday and sometimes during the weekends.

Overall, it's not a bad deal. The rents are reasonably priced so it's not going to be a picture perfect experience - expect to have some complaints (mine is parking) but it's a pretty good deal.

They let you keep your hardwood floors? When I was at an open house back in 2/2006, they told me & another applicant that we had to have the floors carpeted for noise control.
