Parkchester is not all it's hyped up to be. I lived in Parkchester when I was very young and it was a great place however times change and so did the neighborhood. When it was my turn to live alone I decided to live in Parkchester.......BIG MISTAKE! I had a manic depressive border line schizophrenic neighbor (I know this because she showed me medical proof) who wanted to listen to her music at all hours of the night and she was always screaming and hitting the walls. I tried to speak to managment but they informed me that the apartment was own by another person who was renting it and that they could not do anything about it. I called security a few times when the music was unbearable but sometimes they would noe show up and the noise would continue. I dealt with this for 8 months until my lease was over. I was very happy to leave Parkchester not only because of the crazy lady but because it was becoming very unsafe and far as people hanging out in front of the buildings and unsupervised teenagers hanging out in the buildings. They will make it look and sound beautiful but not all the glitters is GOLD!

I lived in Parkchester for 2 yrs, it sstarted off nice it's very well maintained and I loved that the train, bus and stored were convient. But when you live over somebody that complains constantly it takes away the joy of having your own place. And I guess since she was an older lady and owned her apt( I was only renting) I was at fault. But damn she even complained on Christmas and sent security to my door to say we was making to much noise. Mind you it was only about 1 in the afternoon. It got to be ridiculous.I even was sent notices from management, and winded up in the office. My thing was how much noise can I make by myself especially when I was gone between 8 and 7 daily, but management found me at fault so I didn't bother to renew my lease. I wonder who lives over her now.

whysuga2001 Do you have carpet?? As you know Parkchester has very thin walls and you can hear the slightest noise. I hear my upstairs and NEXT door neighbours having sex, walking, talking, using the bathroom , cooking YOU NAME IT! You may think that you aren't making that much noise but trust me, to those under you or next door it sounds like you are right there in their unit. I hate parkchester and I am waiting until my child finishes HS to leave here for good.

thats funny cause i lived in Parkchester and they have some of the most thickest walls of contructions being built after Parkchester was. I may hear kids jumping up and down upstairs but nothing more than that.

I agree with the thick walls. However, I also know for a fact that without carpet something as light as a pin can be heard from a neighbors apartment. The person above, Suga2001 could very well be speaking of me and that's ok too. I have and will continue to complain as long as someone is not in compliance with the rules and regulations of the complex such as having carpet covering most of ones floor. The walls ARE thick to the point where if I am in my bedroom and close the door I cannot hear the music (even turned up fairly loud) in my living room. I do find that Parkchester has a NO NOISE TOLERANCE that they stand firm to. Regardless to the time of day, their police will knock on your door to remind you of just that. I love living there and have done so for the past six years. They have a way of weeding out the bad and ridding the premises of unruly and unwanted tenants.

I lived in Parkchester from 1949 until 1961. It was a beautiful garden like city within a city. The playgrounds had attendants to make sure our children were safe, We had our own police department and everyone respected the beautiful park-like setting we lived in. We had a lovely 2 bedroom apartment on Odell St. and our rent was $82/mo including utilities. We would even shine the brass doorknobs and peepholes with Brasso to keep our doors looking nice. People living in Parkchester in the early years were considered lucky--I know my family and I were.

My family were the first tenants in there Metropolitan Oval apartment. It was safe it was beautiful (flowers planted every season... growing trees all became Christmas trees in December. Playgrounds in every quadrant and it was clean and quiet. But... I also remember as a little girl playing in the Oval one sunny day in the 40s, a Black family being called names and being screamed at because they had subleased an apartment. It was ugly and sad. Years later I was told there was a quota for Jews living there as well. Not all great.
