I have lived in Spring Creek Towers just little over 10 years. This year will be my last. I have actually seen the community decline. The reason why Spring Creek is declining because of it's high rent. I have literally seen decent people move out and the garbage move in. Spring Creek began to accept more and more Section 8 and project people into the community in order to make up for those who were paying the high rent. The people that moved in have not a clue how to live decently. They bring along their thug mentality, along with their children and children's friends. They don't care about the property or the environment. They urinate in the hallways and elevators, they lotter in front of the building, play loud music, their children are disrespectful just like the projects. My family and I have had it! No dogs are allowed. I see more and more people walking their dogs like it is nothing- and they signed a lease stating NO DOGS. So what does that tell you about the individual - they don't care. And management knows about it. As soon as I am able, I am moving out and they can keep the security deposit because I will get it back. Oh parking is a nightmare! You pay 44.10 a month to secure your car, security is suppose to make sure that cars are safe - well they are a joke! Enough said.

Calling people animals is what you are doing. The people who have dogs are either disabled and/or elderly and are entitled by law to have them under the fair housing act. Get your rear end out of the sand.

I agree living herein the begining was nice we moved here in 1998, and since then the place has gone to the dogs. You have ignorant neighbors who are raising ignorant children, after our lease is up we are out of here as well. When you get off work you want to be able to come home to quite not kids and jobless grown ups sitting all on the mail box in front of your building. It's just horrible and we can't wait to leave.

what is wrong with yall people ,yall just talk alot"section 8 family" section 8 working family 1 person making 39,000 is better that 3 persons on 40,000 so dont make section 8 tenants look low because i make 32,ooo and I am 21 with a bachalor degree.try to leave bet you be paying rent with your arm and your leg just for not using your head .Leave and hurry up the're thousands of people waiting to take the apartment your familia reside in.Go back to school to learn math too because 30percent work 35 hours or more and 30percent are disable the others are seniors. so stop saying "welfare". The children of the head of house whole may be distructive and maybe your kid is as while.what do you know your probody at work when they get off of school. If you dont like the living leave go to 54 street manhattan where there is rules of behavior hope you dont talk about the milk costing 6.99 out there .

Section 8 just moved in next door. In 16 yrs of quiet neighborhood, it all went out the window the day they moved in. Now, on a daily basis, the six kids in the house continually run and ride bicycles thru my yard, wake me up screaming, rough housing and running into my bushes under my bedroom window. I've complained to the landlord who owns the house. His advice was make friends with the single lady and her young baby (which turned out to be single mom with live in boyfriend and six kids). I've called the police to remove them from my yard. Their response was "nothing we can do". I work rotating shifts so my sleep hours are not from 10 pm to 6 am..but vary with what shift I work. I'm posting here hoping someone who has dealt with this issue can offer some advice, short of just putting my home up for sale and moving. Which at just a few yrs from retirement, just isn't an option for us.

Anglewest, you haven't lived long enough to make a response. Live on your own for at least forty years and then tell me whether you know the difference between decent or garbage. I am not going to respond any further to you because you are still a kid. And where did you get your degree from? You need to go back and take advance english with concentration on grammar.

I agree that the degree of Section 8 may differ in terms of what people are paying for rent, however Angelwest you have no idea what quality of life is at 21 years old. These buildings are turning into low class living areas more and more each day because of the people who have no idea what the true value of quality living is when they pay $200 for a 3 bedroom apartment.

angel, what they are saying is true. I live in Starret and i'm 23 with a bachelors. life is not easy there, and my family is a "section 8 family" and we are not personally distructive.
AS for the person who mentioned the dogs. YES there are people who are disabled with them, YES there are people who are elderly with them BUT... most of the dogs belong to perfectly "healthy" people who wanted a pet dog. We have a neighbor that lets their damn dog piss and crap in our halls. we live in complete fear, and i watch people i went to school with now wander the property. It is not a good place to live and if you think that this is a great place and that people are speaking badly about it, I wish that you will raise your standards. Starrett has always be lousy (for as long as i can remember). try to better yourself, I know you are trying to defend the working poor, but take a closer look at which of the working poor you are defending.
Starrett is made up of 2 types of people, the ones that try to do good and better, and the ones that don't care. unfortunently both will fit under "section 8" the question is, who is who?

Not all who receive section 8 is garbage. Some actually do need it- TEMPORARILY. But,you and I both know that people who receive and remain on this gov't assistance program from generation to generation, do not intend to better themselves otherwise, they would: go to school, get a degree (BA or better)so they won't remain ignorant, get a job, so that they can fully support their family, and live a comfortable life without the support of the gov't. Without these qualities, you will ALWAYS have people who don't know any better. And in this case, live like filth. So don't get defensive- if you don't fit the criteria. Please don't respond unless you are 40

i have read all the comments posted as response here on this page i may not be as old as some here but i have a pretty good idea of quality of life and quality of living here in starrett. i have lived here for a combined total of 15 years so i have seen what starrett was and what it has become. i originally moved in to starrett in 1991 i was a kid at the time and yes my mother was on section 8 and i remember the security when they actually cared about their jobs and the tenants. there rarely was an incident that didnt show up for and the neighbors were actually neighborly. i enjoyed living here never had any trouble with the law worked hard in school and generally lived up to what was expected of me. in 1999 i joined the marine corps and was injured in iraq moved back home with mom for a while, while securing my disabiliity benefits and section 8. i have seen what has happened to my neighborhood and i am appaled. but to state that it is all to blame on the people who use section 8 is a complete falsehood there are just as many kids belonging to parents who pay fair market who cant control their children because they arent home to do it. just as many kids and teens who have no guidence. they tear up just as much.remember section 8 people arent just welfare recipents they work just as hard as you for the most part, but in a city where the median rent is on the rise and income doesnt keep up with the cost of living some people need help sometimes.

why would this person say that there is something wrong with this woman. obviously that person did not read that she wrote that she wants a safe place for her children. i am a resident of starrett for the past 15 years. It is true that there has been some decline, but overall the neighborhood is still safe.and the person who moved to the south.... i guess thugs dont travel down south. and for the computer science degree it doesnt mean anything if you think you can call someone a dumb a#@. the woman wrote an intelligent response. yours was rude and i dont think you have much common sense or a degree. i hope you are not teaching your child to criticize others and speak like that, because he or she would be doomed whether you moved to the south or not.

FIRST OFF I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE DECENT PEOPLE WHO RECIEVE SECTION 8. MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS KEEP YOUR HEAD UP FOR THOSE WHO RECIEVE IT AND ARE USING IT AS A STEPPING STONE. THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO REALLY DON'T KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT SECTION 8 BESIDES THE FACT THAT IT IS AN GOVERNMENTAL AIDE TO THOSE WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY A FULL AMOUNT OF RENT ON THEIR OWN. WHAT THESE PEOPLE SHOULD DO IS STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE REASON THAT YOU HAVE BECOME SECTION 8 TENANTS. MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE YOU WERE ABANDONED BY YOUR FAMILY AND HAD NO WHERE ELSE TO GO, OR MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE YOUR HOME BURNED DOWN IN A FIRE, OR MAY IT IS BECAUSE THE RENT IS JUST TOO GOD DAMN HIGH TO PAY, AND FEED YOUR CHILDREN, AND PAY YOUR UTILITIES, DOCTORS BILLS, COLLEGE TUITION, ETC. THE REALITY OF IT ALL IS THAT AT SOME POINT IN YOUR LIVES YOU MAY HAVE HAD A JOB AND PAID TAXES JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE AND YOU ARE TIRED OF THESE GOD DAMN FOREIGNERS COMING TO COLLECT WHO HAVE'NT PAID ONE ------- CENT! SO THE WAY I SEE IT IS THAT YOU DESERVE AND ARE ENTITLED TO USE THE MONEY THAT YOU PAID TAXES FOR TO SUPPORT YOUR CAUSE WHEN NEEDED AS SIMPLE AS THAT. I READ EVERYONE'S COMMENT AND ALL I READ WAS SECTION 8 THIS, AND SECTION 8 THAT,IF YOU GUYS WANT TO POINT THE FINGER AT SOMEONE THEN SECTION 8 IS NOT THE ONE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CALL UP YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL OFFICE AND TELL THEM THAT WE NEED HIGHER PAYING JOBS OUT HERE TO COVER SUCH EXPENSIVE RENTS!!!!! HOW COME I DON'T HERE ANYTHING ABOUT THE PRICE OF MILK GOING UP? THE PRICE OF GAS, HOME HEATING OIL,WATER, FARES, AND ETC. HAVE ANY OF YOU SENT OUT AN EMAIL INQUIRING ABOUT ANY OF THE ABOVE? OR IS THAT NOT IMPORTANT? OH I GUESS SECTION 8 BASHING IS ALL THAT COUNTS TO YOU GUYS! NOW, TO ALL OF YOU WHO DON'T HAVE SECTION 8 NOW WHO RESIDE ON THE PREMISES I SURE HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A BIG TIME SAVINGS ACCOUNT TO ACCOMODATE EVERY FUTURE RENT INCREASE THAT IS ABOUT COME FORTH! BECAUSE THE WAY I SEE IT YOU BETTER HOPE THAT YOUR ASSES DON'T END UP IN THE SAME SITUATION NEEDING HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT!!! INSTEAD OF HATING ON AND JUDGING PEOPLE ON THE SECTION 8 PROGRAM MAYBE YOU SHOULD GIVE THEM A CHANCE AND SEE WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT BEFORE YOU START JUDGING BECAUSE AFTER ALL THEIR PLACE TO STAY IS GUARANTEED IS YOURS??

Wow it really pains me to see this although i agree that allot of the times lower income welfare and section 8 people come from the ghetto and carry it with the that is not always the case, and whaen it is the case they simply can not help them selves people like you make them feel like they are worth nothing and capable of nothing else know this because me and my mother were on a government assistance program for 10 years and i am no low life with a thug mentality, thug friends or a loud mouth just the child of a disable single parent. section 8 was our only means of having a nice place to live and people like you made me feel ashamed of being poor so i hid the fact that my mom could not afford to buy me designer sneakers or even to pay the rent by her self i felt dirty and as if it was our fault when the truth is in our country we have millions of people that can find jobs can work and live in poverty no matter how hard they try then we have people who assume they are better because they have been more fortunate and go around showing off with there lavish buys and frivolous spending while the rest of us poor or living pay check to pay check watch in envy
P.s I went to an NYC public high school and frankly most of the loud mouth ghetto wanna be thugs were not poor the had 2 working parents houses cars ext. ghetto is a mind set not a reflection on you economic status any educated person would know that
