I lived in the Fairfax House for many years. When I first moved in, it was a clean, and well kept place to live. The location is a key downtown area and many respective professionals rented apartments. However, with the change in ownership, I have seen the Fairfax House continue to decline as a desirable place to live. The building is in desperate need of updating. The Lobby and hallway walls show years of neglect and quick-fix repairs. Gone are the days of Professionals renting apartments. When I left, neighbors didn't know neighbors, repairs were not addressed, and basically the ship was sinking. The answer is a simple one. Profits. If you are looking for an apartment that will glady take your rent and do little else, then this is the place for you! If you are looking for a "home" and expect repairs to be addressed in a timely fashion, look across the street! If you are still unusure, pop in and talk w/ some of the tenants / residents whom will tell you that often the heater will break down and they keep warm by leaving their ovens open for days and sometimes weeks. Be careful of all the "hot air" that the ownership will blow in your direction, insist on speaking with a resident for the realistic evaluation. It really is a shame. Downtown Delaware Avenue was such a landmark area for our city. It is a shame that others only see dollars and cents.
