Old buildings, lots of crime

I have never lived here, but I have visited countless times. My dad grew up in these apartments and I have relatives who have lived here since 1955. Times have changed. Pre-90's, it was actually a nice, friendly area. Nowadays it's so crime-ridden that I don't even feel safe walking outdoors in broad daylight, and I'm a grown, healthy man! Maintenance is extremely unresponsive and doesn't even finish their jobs anymore; there's a big plywood board on the ceiling instead of proper materials. The radiators, doors, locks, windows, plumbing fixtures, etc have not been updated in decades. (Maybe they have in other units.) They're evicting half the residents of the complex to make way for new construction. I'd pay $350/mo to live here maybe, but for $500 /mo, one can doubtlessly do much better.
