It's not that bad after all

I decided to write a review because I feel many of these reviews do exaggerate a lot. I lived at Kensington Village for three years (2002 to 2005). While these apartments are indeed not too great, they are really not as bad as many of the reviews here suggest. Yes, the buildings are old, plumbing is old, heating is somewhat poor and a bit noisy, and there are a few nuisances. But overall it is still a livable place. Yes, sometimes some cars get broken into. But I just never left anything visibly in my car, and it was never broken into during the three years I lived there, despite the fact that it was parked in a dark garage where it was easily accessible to anyone (garages cannot really be locked because if just one of the ten doors on the garage block is open then you can access all cars because there are no walls separating the cars). So if you just use common sense and don't leave valuable stuff visibly in your car, the risk of it getting broken into is pretty low. Otherwise, I don't think other types of crime are to be afraid of there. I did walk a lot outside and I always felt very safe. There is no other crime I'm aware of happening there. Overall, aside from a few nuisances, I liked the park-like environment and I enjoyed living there. Nuisances were: 1. hearing my upstairs neighbor walking up and down in his apartment all the time. 2. water dripping from the ceiling when the upstairs neighbor took a shower, and maintenance has never been able to fix it. 3. Neighbor using the washing machine (located in the basement under my bedroom) at night (even though this was against the rule). In summary, for the price this is a reasonable place to live, just don't expect luxury. Parking on the street can be difficult but you can rent a garage for a very low price (it was $16 per month back in 2005) and then you always have your parking space.
