Overpriced scammers!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004

My boyfriend, his friend, and I rented a two-bedroom apartmnet here last year. We knew it was expensive ($1440/month plus $25/month for our cat), but it was a spacious apartment and we were desperate.
We moved in March 15, 2003 and by July I wanted to move out. There was ABSOLUTELY no parking anywhere near our apartment, and the closest spaces were handicapped ones. I was pregnant and working evenings (4-10) and I had to park about a quarter mile away from my apartment every night. The parking lot is dimly lit and the neighborhood is not very good.
Our neighbors were loud, playing bad music late into the night every single weekend. I had to listen to them have sex every single night because the walls were so thin.
The kids in the complex hung around on the sidewalks and in parking space on their bikes. Sometimes a crowd of them would stand in the middle of the lot, blocking traffic and screaming when cars approaced.
Our apartment never had any problems, but on numerous occasions the maintenance crew would inconvenience me by sending workers into my apartment during the day to fix problems with my downstairs neighbors' apartment.
The office didn't have a number listed for us, so one morning they turned off our water, to fix a problem in another apartment, without notice. My only "notice" was the brown water that spewed from the shower WHILE I WAS IN IT. When I complained at the office they claimed emergency and offered nothing in return for my inconvenience.
And then, moving day finally came! Everything was packed up; I vacuumed and swept and mopped; we brought the manager (and maintenance men) in and their list of complaints started.
They claimed that the carpet was brand new when we moved in (it wasn't) and that the few minor stains it had wouldn't come out (if professionally cleaned, they would).
Then there was the cat damage. Our cat clawed at a tiny bit of carpet where two pieces met (bedroom and hallway). The carpet frayed a bit. Management says that ALL of the carpets in the ENTIRE apartmment must be replaced because of this EXTREMELY MINOR damage.
They said, "When you moved in the carpets were new, the next renters expect the same."
"New carpet'" I asked.
"We don't replace them every time someone moves out, we replaced them when the people before you left because they damaged the carpets so badly that we had no choice. We don't enjoy replacing carpets, we lose money in the long run."
We had been under the impression that our $200 non-refundable pet fee was to cover any damages our pet incurred. We were told that the fee "is just so your cat can live here". Odd, we thought that was what the pet RENT was for.
My boyfriend tried to convince the manager to attempt to patch the carpet. "We don't patch," she said, "there are dye-lots and the color won't match."
This went on for nearly an hour. The management sucks and they are going to take half of our security deposit to put down new carpets. And I bet when the next people move out, they'll have to be replaced again.
Save yourself some money and lots of hassle, and move somewhere else. COVENTRY VILLAGE and HOME PROPERTIES are horrible.

She is 100 % right! I rent at a different home properties, but it's the same scam, try transfering, they wont even call you back!! But it's in their ''pledge'', when you transfer, they hit you with new security and pet fee and transfer fee!!! It doesnt say that in the pledge!! I'm a hostage at my apt. I can't wait to get out
