The bad -
When we had to end our lease early it ended up costing an arm and a leg, 3 months rent. Technically it was $1478 an extra month as they wouldn't negotiate the end of lease date. I don't fault them for that, I mean, they're in the business to make money.
We had to leave for a few reasons.
1 - because our dog is curious about the doodles that other neighbours had not cleaned up and ended up getting sick. The situation was also unsanitary for me. No matter how careful I would be when I ventured out onto the grass to clean up after my dog, I would often end up with poop on my shoes. This was also due to poor lighting in certain areas.
2 - it was very dark. The big glass doors that should let light in is covered on all sides. even in the middle of the day you need to have lights on to read a book. My wife ended up having SAD, and the apartment was causing her to be depressed.
3-change in schedule. the commuter bus to albany is great. However, if you are counting on that to get to work, you need to make sure that your work schedule will not change, otherwise you need to drive. (the drive is not as big a deal as people make it out to be)
other problems
here is my utility bill
nov - $168
dec - $178
jan - $149
and we were away most of the time (not using any heat or electric)
It took them 2 months to bring in a washing machine, that they promised would be there when we moved in.
Our fuse in our kitchen has melted at least 3 times (it takes around 3 days for the maintenance to come in and fix it). They told us to be careful not to use more than 1 appliance in the kitchen at a time.
The good -
1 - one of the few places in the area that accept dogs. There are other places but they can run you quite a bit of cash. (believe me I looked)
2-very safe. I never saw or heard of any trouble. The only weirdo was some lady from outside the complex that would drive in and fill up our dumpsters with her garbage late in the evenings and some hairy dude that thought he was JC.
3 - the office ladies are very sweet. they love the dogs and always are helpful. Really I feel sorry for them, they seem to really get treated rudely by some of the tenants. It seems almost like they can't do anything to help the tenants sometimes despite wanting to, because their corporate overlords are trying to make the quick buck.
Hope that was helpful. You can email me if you want.
