We have lived in Hollandale for 2 years. In that time, my daughter has made a few friends, however many of the kids that I have encountered here are not supervised very well. We have encountered young teens "making out" in the courtyard behind us, as well as teens rolling joints and smoking them in the same area.
There are "shady" characters, strolling around in vehicles talking to kids. This happened to a neighbor boy age 15, who was taking a walk and was out front of my building. he just ran up to my apartment to get away. Thes people were urging him to get in the car and show them the way to a building. We did call the police and they found them circling our building and admitted to what the young man said had happenend.
The noise level in our building is ridiculous. We have a family with 3 kids upstairs and it sounds like a herd of buffalo. this occurs after the quiet time of 9 pm and sometimes as early as 7 am. We have complained to the neighbor and management who do nothing. The noise is so extreme that oftentimes my light fixtures shake and pictures on the wall move.
There needs to be a lot of renovations done here. kitchens need updating with newer cabinets and more of them. Storage is horrible in the kitchen. widows need to be replaced as the cold air that comes is is intolerable. Right after we moved in, the toilet in the apartment above overflowed and sent water through the light fixture in my bathroom ceiling, which in turn leaked into the hallway ceiling. they fixed this, with a patch and a sloppy paint job. when the pipes in my other bathroom froze and bits of the ceiling were falling in the tub, the did a patch job on that as well, but in turn leaving plaster in the tub and on the bedroom carpet to harden. Not good workmanship. For what they charge I think they could do a bit better maintanance.
There is a laundry room in the building. 2 washers and 2 dryers which are about from the 1980s im geussing. If you dont use powder detergenti wouldnt reccommend using these washers. People use powder in them and do not clean them, this in turn leaves a white residue on your clothes, however there is note saying not to use it. Upon complaining about this the office replied there was nothing they could do. We pay 1.50 per wash and 1.50 per dry. When people pay they have a right not to have clothes ruined.
All in all, I believe Hollandale is not what they claim to be, especially not for what they charge. We will be moving soon.

I lived in Hollandale from 2006 to 2007 in one of the buildings near the rental office and I had a similar situation with noisy neighbors. But these people were in the next building! I complained and they appeared to do nothing until all of the other neighbors decided to complain too. The one young "hoodlum" would sit out in the parking lot and rev his loud truck engine just for the heck of it - he would actually sit in the truck with no intention of going anywhere and just do it to irritate people. He used to actually kick in the front door to the hallway instead of using the key because the locks were so loose and he was a total ***hole. His dad was just as bad and would join him in doing that. Finally, one of the maintenance guys saw him kicking in the door and said something to him and he stopped doing it! I think because the maintenance guy was such a big man, he must have threatened to beat him up! Thank goodness! Anyway, by then, so many people had complained about them that I think they moved or were going to move just after I left the area. BUT, the reason I mention this is that it just depends on the area that you are renting. The apartments toward the lake are a little nicer and the people who live there are generally nice. Compared to many other apartment complexes in the area, Hollandale is rather peaceful. Read the reviews about Twin Lakes or others in that area. Hollandale has it good compared to them! Unfortunately, due the transient nature of apartment renters, the sleazeballs come and go - hopefully we nice guys can outlast them or make their stay miserable so they will leave before we have to! Fight fire with fire....
