Racial slurs at Hollandale tolerated

Recently I had an argument with my neighbor over a parking spot. His 2 cars were occupying 3 spots and (a) a similar situation having happened on other previous occasions and (b) there being no other parking spot available, I parked behind his cars. As then a short while later, he could not get his cars out, he started yelling at me insulting me racially with expletives. He then yelled that I was only a renter and so had no right to a parking spot whereas he had 2 houses and was living there only temporarily. Other people saw this and could easily have heard my neighbor's yelling too.
When I complained about this to Hollandale, the office manager Donna received the information very coolly as if I were making a everyday simple complaint about say cigarette butts on the lawn out front. She wrote a school teacher-type lecturing letter asking both of us to live peacefully and sent the same letter to both my neighbor and me. The letter did not even acknowledge that something serious had happened. There was no warning to my neighbor. Meanwhile I have been living a little bit concerned about this person who hates me and my race and my country next door, but it does not appear that Hollandale management cares at all.
This review is just to let other people know that Hollandale tolerates racial intolerance and does not take action to subdue it, nor protect victims of such abuse.
I plan to move as soon as I find another apartment, fortunately my lease will be up in June too.

Perhaps it is not intended to be a racial slur, but people react and say things in anger that they would not normally say. However, it still just not justify it. In case you didn't realize it, you can call the local police for this type of disturbance. Since you are concerned for your safety or at the very least, your property, you have the right to protect it as you see fit. Even though the office managers rarely get involved, you can insist that a police officer take your report so in case something does happen, you will have an official record of the incident. Particularly, if vandalism or other such incident occurs. Something to think about and also this may send a message to others in the complex that such actions are not tolerated. Too many times, people just put up with inconsiderate jerks!

It does seem in the past year or so that there are people moving in here that do not seem to care about their neighbors, the rules published in their lease, littering, misuse of dumpsters (and not just in the recyclables), speeding and just a general disregard for everything. Perhaps manaagement should be running background checks to avoid some of these situations.

It is not our imagination!
My family has lived here (not in building 2) for several years (over 10) and for the last year or so we have talked about how the quality of life here at Hollandale has changed.
The Management lets ANYONE move in here. They are just looking to fill the empty apts... it's all about the money and no longer about providing a higher quality and great living environment.
We have problems with parking at our building as well.
I dont understand how people can just pull in and walk away. Not realizing that they have: taken more then one spot, parked in the handicapped parking spot, parked so close to the car parked next to them that the driver of that car has to climb in through the passenger side door to get in the car or parked in between the handicaped spaces where you are suppose to walk up to get into the building-forceing you to walk through the snow (winter) or grass. Some (a lot in Hollandale these days) are so stupid and have no common sense or a drop of kindness.
A friend of ours in a different building had a window to her apt broken by what looks like a bebe gun recently. When we visited her and her family recently and were leaving another resident walked in the apt, checked and read some of her mail and then walked right pass us while smoking a cigerette in the common hall way. I think because she didn't know who we were she didnt care! We walked back into our friends apt and asked if she knew which apt smoked in the public "NON SMOKING" area and they knew. They said that the smokers apt is next to the laundry room and all the smoke goes into the laundry room and makes it reak! We am so thankful that no one (that we know of) in our buiding smokes.
So the lovely Hollandale has turned in to a "rent at your own risk apt's"... becareful if you are wanting to move here, ask around the building you are thinking of moving into.
And one final thing... It seems like everytime I am either walking or driving in or out of the complex the jerk kid (okay he's about 25ish) who drives the dark red (burgandy) truck ... "burns rubber, fishtales in wet conditions or is reving his motor" coming and going he thinks he is so cool. But one of these days... he's going to hit someone and God forbid it is one of the many children living in the area. WHAT A JERK!!!!! But I'm sure if I complained the management would just say, we'll send him a letter... I dont know what building he's in... I'm just THANKFUL that he is not in mine.
Okay I have vented enough!

I am sure you would not want your name and information given out to just anyone who asked. People's privacy has to be protected. I know if someone asked for my information, I would not want someone getting it to do a background check. I once had a former boyfriend call the complex to get my address and boy was I glad they did not give it out. Places have to keep information private. Would you want me or anyone to be able to get YOUR name and do a background check on you?

You blocked a man's vehicle because he was over a parking line but then make yourself sound like a victim? Sounds like management should be worried about you if you have that much anger over a parking space! I feel bad for Hollandale's staff with you as a tenant.

any prejudice is unfortunate, but i have to wonder about your behavior as you obviously and admittedly initiated the confrontation. there are always two sides to every story. the hollandale staff did not block the car. who would you blame if you owned a house and had an argument with your neighbor?

I agree with the person who said it probably was a remark said in anger. I believe we all say things at times we wish we did not say. You obviously mishandled the situation did you think by blocking his vehicles he would be happy? It is my experience that if things get heated there is involvement on both sides. This was not a situation that the apartment complex created it was your poor judgment. Again, what if that neighbor had an emergency and you blocked him in?

Agreed, you created a bed situation and then blamed management and the staff for the consequences. Be an adult and take responsibility!!
Stop perpetuatng a bad situation. Be the better person and make amends with your neighbor. This is how wars get started!! Stop the madness!!

I'm sure they don't run fingerprints, who does but have you forgotten your employment and income is verified as well as your history with previous landlords? I had to bring in copies of some income information, as all of mine is not strictly on a w2 and did you not even read your application they ask you if you have ever been convicted of a crime? its illegal to lie. I agree with the above comments, you definitely played a part in the situation honestly, do you think the neighbor woke up in the morning and said i'm going to park over a line today would you block someone in at a mall. sounds like you had issues because you did not want to put yourself out and have to walk alittle we all know there is plenty of parking at hollandale. its my experience that hollandale is peaceful and the staff is very efficient, its unfortunate you used a public site to try to make yourself feel better and to put a place that many of us call home in a bad light. you say you are moving, sounds like a good idea, we like peace not someone inciting his neighbors

It's disappointing that some respondents appear to be condoning the racial abuse which the victim endured. Yelling racial abuse at anybody is totally out of line. I wonder how these respondents would feel if they were at the receiving end of such behavior over a parking spot?
I agree with one of the respondents that Hollandale's quality of residents has deteriorated in the past few years.
