Not the best . . . but there are worse . . .

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
Parkwood certainly has its ups and downs . . .
This was the first apartment that my husband and I lived in together. We initially chose the apartment complex because of its location (halfway between both of our places of employment), its private setting (and trail), the spacious layout (1100 square feet, two large bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, and spacious patio), and its unusually generous pets policy.
Some issues we encountered have been mentioned in previous entries, but are certainly worth re-hashing . . .
-Maintenance: While we found the maintenance staff to be readily available for emergencies (i.e. our furnace decided to stop working on Christmas Day), some of the employees did not offer any respect of privacy. Some would just enter our apartment without knocking/notifying us (and one even entered while belligerently arguing on his cellphone). Mind you, this was not always the case, as we had some very polite and congenial staff members assisting us.
-Power: In the year and a half that we lived there, we probably had close to 10 power outages. These outages did in fact cause the water to stop working (so, no flushing of toilets) and would last for many hours.
-Weak Electrical Wiring: A wire shorted out on us and caused a fire in our living room. When calling to report the fire (while it was happening), the manager on duty said she'd put in for a maintenance request . . . we then proceeded to call 911 and upon the arrival of fire trucks, the manager conveniently disappeared . . .
-Mold: Yes, there is mold. And yes, for tenants who are allergic to molds, this can be a problem. We needed to clorox those spots regularly. The managers did not seem to consider this an issue.
-Hard Water: We've heard that this is a problem for all of Clifton Park, but the water is very hard. We purchased a filter for the shower and the kitchen tap.
-Snow Removal: Snow removal was not reliable. We had to invest in shovels to shovel our way out of the parking spaces before heading to work. Also, we purchased our own salt to salt the walkway because this was often done in the late afternoon (thus causing a slippery walk on your way out the door in the morning).
-Laundry Facilities: The dryers were almost always out of service. We had found, later in our stay there, that a resident was tampering with them in order to do his laundry for free. Still, laundry was unreliable.
-Rent: Be prepared to pay more each year that you renew your lease. Our rent went up substantially.
We did find, however, that the manager was quite helpful when moving out (she was willing to negotiate the terms of the lease since we were actively house-hunting). Upon moving out, we took the time to thoroughly clean the unit and received our full security deposit back (despite the fact that our cat scratched up the carpet).
Honestly, our biggest complaints involved disrespectful neighbors (noise, inability to clean up after dogs, etc), but that comes with the territory when living in an apartment! As I said in my review title . . . it wasn't the best apartment, but it could've been a lot worse. bYr9ljUwtCbMRXE8dRDC
