Shameful Management

I lived at Riverwalk for 7 years, and it was an exceptionally pleasant place for most of the time. However, the onsite managers have changed several times in the past couple of years. Despite being a model tenant, rent payments were apparently mishandled and my security deposit was unlawfully retained until a complaint was made to the state DA. Despite my long tenure and very part-time spent at the property along with impeccable neatness (never requesting or requiring painting or carpet cleaning upon multiple annual lease renewals), after the illegal withholding/theft ended, the deposit was reduced by over $300 for cleaning an allegedly unclean apartment. ??Un-cleanliness?? would not describe any living situation of mine. Without fear of liable, this action was clearly related to my complaint, and the eventual repossession of my stolen deposit. I would anticipate similar actions toward any future lessee and anticipate further deterioration in the property itself. The goal of management demonstrated in a widespread fashion is to generate revenue without long-term interest in the property any longer. It is unfortunate as it is a nice spot by the river to live.

Thanks for the insight to managements attempts to circumvent NYS housing laws. According to statute, painting and rug cleaning should not be charged against the deposits.

That is what one would think as well. I lived there for a year, had no problems until it was time for us to move. They would not return our deposit, claiming the apartment was not cleaned and rugs etc had to be replaced. We had 5 people cleaning the apt the day we moved out, and had the carpets steam cleaned while we were that which is NOT required. Management had changed a few times in the course of the year we lived there and the new management is what brought this place down. I'm actually surprised they are still in business!!

I agree and I have lived here two years. There is now a new office manager and things should get better. If not then I will be leaving also. They tell you when you move in that the rent increases are minimal but they are liars. I have heard horror stories about deposits being kept and the reasons. Much of what goes on does seem to be illegal. I do not know why the state does not step in here.
Other than that I do like it here(Cohoes and the island). They need to take better care of the walkways during the winter months and stop letting the place go. There is no hot tub any longer and they have not touched the pool since summer ended. We all doubt it will be open this summer.

I've been a resident here for almost a year and will be leaving when my lease is up. I'm not the kind of person to leave reviews but I think this place is such a joke that I need to say something. I paid $500 for a pet deposit, I clean up after my dog and have never had a problem with it. Now instead of these morons in the office dealing with the people who don't pick up they're going after anyone they feel like. Instead of management trying to fix the problems around here in order to get more tenants they are making up new rules to get new revenue, for example this was posted on all the garbage room doors; First time Urination / Defecation in the grass $100. Pet waste not properly removed $50, second violation $75, third violation $100 and $50 for any pet not on a leash and any unauthorized pet is $1000. Upon final violation the pet must pack up his/ her suitcase and leave the property. As a normal human being I can understand this to a certian extent, however, management here takes everything one step too far. BUYER BEWARE!
