I agree with angryyoungman. Why on earth would anyone assume that the negative reviews were made by those with a strong "consumerist mentality" who had never lived in an apartment before' I've lived in apartments since I was born, minus the 10 years or so that I lived with my parents when they bought a house, and I do understand that 'you can't please everyone'.

I lived in LaBonneVie and hated it! It's not apartment living that I hate--it was LaBonneVie living that I hated. I live in another complex now (God forbid I mention it by name and get accused of being a rental agent/manager there...) and I'm very pleased. We'll do a quick comparitive analysis--shall we''

We had one attack of termites, which was VERY quickly dealt with, unlike labonnevie, where they basically had the run of my kitchen, living room and den for a few MONTHS. No other insect issues like I had with LaBonneVie.

My next door neighbors now make noise, talk, watch TV, have sex, and take showers. The difference is--HERE I don't have to hear it all, whereas in labonnevie, I felt almost like a voyeur, the walls and floor were so thin.

I've lived at my new place for about 18 months now, and I rarely lock my car. It's not been ransacked, vandalized, or otherwise damaged since I moved in. In fact, it hasn't been messed with since I moved out of LaBonneVie (which occured more than once).

I have a (nicer) gym area and use of the pool and clubhouse. Guess how much I pay' Nothing. Guess how much my guests pay' Nothing.

The office staff where I am now knows me and my son by name. They're always friendly, and gave me a break the time I paid my rent 2 days late. LaBonneVie staffers SNAPPED at me and my son often, and threatened to call a lawyer and yelled at me when I was going to pay my rent 2 days late (no, this isn't a problem with me-these are the only 2 times I've ever paid late).

The grounds are very well kept and beautiful. There are no shredded newspapers that landscaping ran over with the mowers every week. There isn't litter and junk laying all over.

I have central air and central heating. Know how much of a "fuel surcharge" my new place charges every month' NOTHING.

I get a 3 day notice before anyone enters my place (check smoke alarms, replace filters, etc) so that I can plan around it. LaBonneVie just entered whenever they felt like it for very non emergency things. Often without knocking-they'd just let themselves in.

I had a problem at my new place (toilet wouldn't stop running), they came the next day. I had a more important problem at LaBonneVie (Oven wasn't working-at all) and it took them over a week to fix it!

Yes-LaBonneVie is relitively cheap for the island. But isn't even a case of "You Get What You Pay For" because you don't even get that! You get less. The place I'm at now is about $100 more per month than their nicer 2 bedroom. But I have 3 bedrooms, and I have the upstairs and downstairs....and 2 bathrooms....and a washer and dryer hookup...and TONS of closet and storage space...and my own driveway and garage...and it's gated at night...so consider everything before you try to "save" money.



Why on Earth would we make this up'' This isn't a "Wahh! I'm not happy in an apartment!". These are specific problems, consistant themes in many different posts.

I am looking for 2 bedroom appartment with no special features, but the prices are just killing me (the min was $1625). Giving that we have a toddler and planning another baby next year (so I wont work for a while), I'm pretty desperate by now.
