When I came to look at the apartment (2 months before we actually moved in), it looked perfect. It really did! Once we moved in though, there were a few things that needed fixing. Nothing that was a big deal though. We are here until late 2006.

1. Parking - Parking is ok, for us. We only have 2 cars and we have an outside end unit, so one of us has the driveway and the other parks on the road near the front door. Overall, parking is great for us. When people from other complexes come to use OUR pool, they park on BOTH sides of the road and it's hard to get your car through.

2. Noise Level - The Fairfield website said that there was insulation to protect against the noise, but believe me there ISN'T!! Our upstairs neighbors are great people and very nice, but they're heavy. It sounds like a herd of elephants, but if there were sound proofing insulation, it wouldn't drive us nuts. You get used to it after a while. Besides, their older boys look out for my younger son when he's playing with his friends.

3. Grounds - You can WALK your dog anywhere you want. If the pooch has to go, it has to be in a certain area. OUR area is behind a set of garages on the other side of our road. In the winter it wasn't so bad, the weeds weren't there to keep the bugs happy. Yes, I said BUGS. This place is disgusting with yellow jackets, flies, potato bugs, slugs and other flying things. It's worse near the dog walks. There is a "courtyard" between the garage and the dog walk. It's supposed to look nice, but it's so weed infested that it's hard to walk your dog there without getting bit and bit and bit. Maintenance is supposed to keep us supplied with poop bags, but we haven't had any for over 6 months. The weeds have grown up so high around the trash can for the poop that you take a chance and just toss it in from 6 feet away.

4. Safety - Lighting is ok. The gates are a laugh though. Although, that isn't Fairfield's fault. There are trouble makers that live in a neighboring apartment complex that either smash through the gates with their cars or they come and jump on the gates 3 or 4 at a time to break them. I and plenty of neighbors have seen it happen.

5. Construction - Back to the sound proofing insulation - non existant!! They just paint over any mess on the walls without using primer or taking off the lumps on the walls. Looks very second rate or maybe third rate.

6. Maintenance - Our maintenance manager was just canned and good riddance. He took every request as a personal afront. There were 2 other maintenance guys and they were ok. They helped alot, especially if you asked them to personally and didn't call the maintenance phone number and leave a message. Well, one of the best maintenance guys died about 6 weeks ago and the other quit when the manager got canned. Why did he get canned' I was told it was because he didn't reply to emergency phone calls on the weekends or after normal business hours. We now have a new manager and we'll see how it goes. I'll tell you this though --- my dishwasher broke yesterday. I called and left a message on the emergency number and someone was at my apartment within 10 minutes. Of course, he couldn't do anything on a Sunday, but he said the new manager will be by today to take a look.

7. Office Staff - Dale in the rental office is very nice. She's always answered all my questions and even just stops to chat when she sees me. She's a very hard worker, in my opinion. The Commack office staff have been nothing but nice and helpful, when I have a question. We're supposed to call them when the maintenance workers don't do their job. Refer to #6 above.

8. Overall - Overall, it's not the greatest place to live but it ain't the worst either. My ratings are for the present and not the future. We will still be here for another year and I hope the new maintenance workers get their act together and make this into the place that I saw 2 months before we moved in.

9. Recommendation' Still not sure yet.
