When first working with the leasing agent I was shocked at her rudeness but thought - maybe she's just having a bad day but soon found out that everyday was a bad day for everyone that works with this management firm, Heatherwood Communities. I've worked in customer service for 12 years and can't believe they get away with treating people this way. They treat all tenants like garbage. I can't stress how rude everyone I've come into contact with at his management company, Heatherwood, has been. They send out nasty threatening letters about everything from where you park your car to where your kids play. The Super had the nerve to tell my 8-year old Granddaughter that she was not allowed to ride her scooter on the sidewalk and that she had to ride it in the street. What a nerve! At 8 years old she's not allowed to play in the street, and he has some pair to tell a little girl to go play in the street! In my first month of living here (in November), I had the super in 3 times about the heat and was told that "the heat in these apartments have a major design flaw".Now, that's something that's very important and that was never mentioned before we moved in. It seems that the heat never seems to get into the bedrooms and you'll awaken in the AM with ice on your toes. Seriously, to bring the bedrooms up to a comfortable temperature, the rest of the apartment has to be about 85 degrees. Also, there is no thermostat! I've never seen anything like it. There's a knob down on the floor by the baseboard that controls the heat. When the apartment gets cold, you turn the heat up and when it gets too hot, you turn it down. All you do all day is turn it up, then turn it down and then turn it up again because there's no temperature that can be set to stay constant so it's either too cold or too hot and there's no happy medium.Absolutely the worst system I've ever seen. Parking is also a horror. My husband works nights and at 2AM has to park 2 buildings away. Everybody's fighting for the same spots, and it's hard to understand how they don't do better planning with this in the design stage. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPLEX! In addition to all this,they add all kinds of fees every single month onto the rent bill - increases for taxes, garbage and even fuel surcharges. You sign a lease thinking you're going to pay one amount but every bill is $30 to $60 over that amount! The lease is 4 pages long and you'll need a magnifying glass to read the small print. You'll be signing your life away and handing over your first born. Sadly, Heatherwood Communities owns and runs about 8 rental communities on Long Island so BEWARE! You've been warned. Now be smart and if you want to have less stress and aggrivation, go find someplace else to live. Thank God I only signed a year lease and the next 6 months can't go fast enough.
